I've had the BRDVD4 for nearly a year, and no complaints. Currently I have retired it to back-up status, as I prefer it over the BRDVD3 (smaller size and proven reliability). Best Buy did not have the BRDVD4s in stock when I went to purchase a back-up, otherwise I would have bought a second one.

The BRDVD2 model linked above seems to have universally poor reviews, so it may be worth the extra $10 or $20 for a more reliable model.
I'm curious as to starting a region free collection; are both BRDVD3 and BRDVD4 the best values? I've looked both up and them seem to have less than stellar reviews.

You should ask in this thread.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=190357

Anyways there is a bunch of info in this thread I don't agree with. The one I linked to (WBRDVD2) is the best one and the best deal. WBRDVD2 and BRDVD4 are the same but the 2 has WiFi. BB just so happens to have it cheaper than the 4 at moment. BRDVD3 is the oldest player. Ya they have bad reviews. That's why you buy a refurb that has been fixed and use it only to watch other region discs. Use your regular player for region A. I have two BRDVD4 and they work fine for me. For $40 you can't go wrong.

considering he is a huge figure in experimental filmmaking, he already has a pretty big fanbase.

Well, I finished Peyton Place, and loved it. It was deliciously trashy and borderline ridiculous, but despite all that, it was well written and is still shocking in some parts today. I'm now moving onto Rosemary's Baby, as believe it or not, it's a novel I haven't read yet. I enjoy Ira Levin's work.

Canadian preorders are still cheap of the film version, or they were 3 hours ago.

I apologize for this, but I wanted to alert those that haven't heard the news. There was a shooting at a movie theater in Colorado at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises. 12 to 15 Peolple dead and 38 to 50 people injured (numbers vary from source to source).

It's pretty sad when it's not even safe to see a film out these days. My thoughts are with the survivors and their families.

I'm sure BG will keep me/us informed about films worth mentioning.
Thanks for pointing that out! Been pretty tied up with things myself, good to know.

My aunt and uncle were posted in Aurora back when he was in the Canadian Air force back in the 1960s. What is wrong with people to do things like this?

Hey everyone, I know Criterion no longer has the rights to The Third Man, but is it still possible to get a replacement case from them? I still have the original cardboard release.

I agree that French films at the time also had a certain flair (and I love the two Melvilles you mentioned, especially Army of Shadows) but it seems the French are better known for that generally than most anyone else. I don't think most people realize that there were stylish and intriguing films that fit into what could be called a Japanese New Wave or a Czech New Wave, as Criterion has been calling them.
Not a problem. I will send you a PM with those soon.

I agree with your statement. The French get all the credit and the other are made out to be imitators. Another excellent example of the French would be Le Samouraď, which really owes itself more to Japanese cinema then anything. But in a twist of irony, Le Samouraď launched some of the greatest hitman movies (from all regions) of all time.

I got to say, you know your stuff. A big to you.

I don't have experience with the BRDVD2 but its reviews are consistently worse than the other models. I prefer the BRDVD4 over the BRDVD3 simply because of the size and menu, but both have been problem-free for me thus far.

The only "drawback" has been that I am now spending a lot on region B discs.

But why would WiFi be a selling point if you need to preserve out-of-date firmware to access the configure menu? I use my BRDVD3 for non 1/A discs exclusively and do not have it networked.
