I like Family plot. Not his best, but there are others of his that are far worse. For the record I think Shadow of a Doubt is his best film.

With that Hitch boxset coming out it would be nice if Paramount would release The Trouble with Harry. Personally I'd like to see Criterion get their hands on the original The Man Who Knew to Much

It's fair to say that, if Satantango ever gets a BD release, it does need to be spread over two discs. No discussion needed there .
Indeed. It would be great to see Werckmeister Harmonies and Damnation too.

I always sensed Vertigo would continue to climb in respect and stature. For years film historians, Hitchcock fans, message boards and blogs have held the film to such a high regard. Now that has reached the top everyone seems to be moaning about it. Just appreciate film and try not to think too much of stupid lists, polls and awards.

Criterion would probably have easier chance obtaining the '34 version of The Man Who Knew Too Much. Not sure if there are any decent elements to even consider it though. It seems to be a public domain title in the U.S.

Shadow of a Doubt is my favorite from Hitch. I watch it every year around Halloween, not cause its scary or anything, but I love films set in eerie claustrophobic type towns. I also watch The Stranger usually as a double bill right behind Shadow of a Doubt.

So to sum up, it climbed in respect and stature until it finally reached the top of a stupid list?

That is what I meant by the 'original'. Was there another version before the 34' one? I frankly don't really care for his own remake with Jimmy Stewart.

The Trouble with Harry will be available in the Universal Hitch boxset you reference. Paramount have not had it for a long time now.

Lifeboat and Psycho are probably my top favorite Hitchcock movies. I really love Vertigo but I too am surprised it was favored as highly as it was.

No, you're correct.

Yeah, this is one of the titles you'll always find in those $5 20+ film Hitchcock collections in a bargain bin near you...a collection that is totally worth it in my opinion, because even at the crappiest of qualities there are some real gems from Hitchcock's British period to be found. Everyone always (rightly) talks about The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps from this period, but as mentioned The Man Who Knew Too Much, as well as Secret Agent, Sabotage, Young and Innocent, and Blackmail to name some are damn good films as well.

Blackmail - both the silent and talkie versions - is at least being restored as part of the BFI's Hitchcock 9 project, so it should see a release by someone. This project focuses on Hitch's silents though, so his British talkies will still by and large remain in crappy-quality public domain-dom.

But I'm not complaining too much. A significant amount of his catalog is coming to blu this year, and I'm ecstatic about it. Vertigo is my most look-forward-to-watching blu this year, even ever so slightly above Lawrence of Arabia.

Actually, Yes. It is still the same film regardless. Citizen Kane is still the same list regardless. A week from now it will be forgotten about that it de-throned Kane.

It is kind of a different list. I (along with others I would assume) list the films I like only to show a bit of my personality. It is only my likes being shared and not what I feel everyone else should consider to be the best.

I would imagine it has been considered by Criterion. My guess is there are not decent elements available at the moment to create a HD master.

I understand everyone likes talking about Hitchcock and Vertigo, the former being just plain awesome and the latter being a great film I haven't seen yet, but I'm more interested to hear what people think about Ozu topping the director's list. I don't mean to stop the Hitchcock discussion, I just want to hear what others think out of curiosity. I've never seen an Ozu film, so I'm tickled with curiosity

THE RING could be a future title with Criterion or perhaps someone like Kino.

Hitchcock aficionados are set to be in raptures when they see restored film The Ring premiere at the Hackney Empire, after the culmination of a painstaking three year restoration project.

The silent film tells the story of a love triangle between boxer Bob Corby, his boxing rival Jack Sander and Mabel, Jack’s beautiful wife. The bouts in the ring get increasingly personal, culminating in the championship fight at the Albert Hall, where the two men compete for Mabel's love as well as the title.

His rarely-seen masterpiece is being premiered on July 13, but all of his highly-acclaimed oeuvre will be celebrated as part of the BFI's wider project, The Genius of Hitchcock.

Between August and October the BFI will be showing a marathon retrospective of all 58 surviving Hitchcock films, so fans will have plenty of chance to see their favourites as well as explore the more unusual films in his collection. It's an opportunity for a new generation to embrace Hitchcock and realise there's far more to him than the infamous Psycho shower scene.

Default Tokyo Olympiad high-res cover?

Hey all...I was just wondering if anyone had a high-res cover or would be willing to get one scanned for me? I was able to score a library copy and the cover isn't in great shape. Thanks for any help!

It's all in fun. Sometimes it gets too serious and too insane on these boards. But I knew you were messing with me.
