Haven't had any AK in a while - Drunken Angel

Box set - BRD (no reason to expect it, I just want it and I wouldn't say no to The Decalogue either)

It's about time - Wild Strawberries, Spartacus

Out of nowhere - Fail-Safe, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Rififi
I think the Wenders Road (Alice in the Cities, etc) movies will be the box set.

Boxset Possibilities:

Pasolini's Trilogy of Life - Appears to be delayed
Wenders' Road Movie trilogy - Alice in the Cities is up on Hulu
Oshima's Youth Trilogy - Up on Hulu
Apu Trilogy - Probably not until 2013
Qatsi Trilogy - Director said they were in the works (yeeears ago)
Koker Trilogy - Supposedly on that piece of paper Criterion posted a while back but the release of Certified Copy this year probably means we won't be seeing it until 2013 (at the earliest)
BRD Trilogy - Upgrade likely to be imminent as the DVD set is now OOP

My November Predictions: Grey Gardens (Upgrade), The Ice Storm (Upgrade), On the Waterfront, The Kid with a Bike, Babette's Feast, and on DVD Oshima' Youth Trilogy:Eclipse Series. This could all change though if they provide a hint in the next 2 days.

If Oshima's Youth Trilogy was an Eclipse set, I'd be very very disappointed.

If either The Kid with a Bike, Wild Strawberries or Y Tu Mama Tambien shows up, I'll be happy. The rest is icing.

Tokyo Story and The Passion of Joan of Arc make the most sense for an immediate release. Those two films have just been named among the Top 10 Greatest Films by Sight & Sound. That's about as much free publicity as those two films will get in a long time.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard it's long. And with 2 kids running around don't think I'll have much time to devote to it, but it's on the list!

Thanks

If you liked that film, Pops, then I strongly recommend you also try The Human Condition trilogy by the same director, Masaki Kobayashi, on DVD. It's a long series, but an important one and its themes are timeless and universal. I clearly remember seeing it in a theater over the course of a weekend and the time flew by.

Its tone is even more sobering than that of Harakiri.

That would possibly be the greatest thing I could imagine. Well, that, and if Criterion would fix the mis-framing on Three Colors Blue, but that will never happen since Mk2 screwed up the master.

Every month around the 15th, when the new CC announcements happen, it feels like yesterday the previous announcements happened.

Have you heard anything recently about progress on Red River? In 2010 I recall hearing them say it was coming in 2012. It seemed like the film elements were in rough shape.
