Criterion just made my year with the announcement of Rashomon and The Trilogy Of Life. What great releases and Rashomon has some excellent cover art. These will probably coincide with the B&N sale so that will make them day one purchases! Really stoked!

Speaking of Rashomon, I am kind of surprised there wasn't another AK alongside it.

That just seems like such a natural way to go for them (and there are so many from which to choose).

Oh well...

Sounds great. I'm planning on watching it and Rosetta on Saturday night. Does Criterion have the rights to The Kid with a Bike? I'm wondering if I should pull the trigger and get the UK version.

Russ Meyer has one too.

http://www.criterion.com/people/119626-russ-meyer

The Leni Riefenstahl film most likely will be Olympia.

I was hoping Glauber Rocha or Philippe Garrel had one.

I hope this means these are films that could show up in the next 6 months though. I want Limite.

I'd like to know, myself. According to imdb, it's got the same US distributor as Weekend. Maybe if they wanted to..?

Charles Vidor - Gilda?

That would be very sweet...and it's Columbia so it's definitely in play.

I too desperately wanted Rocha (I tried a few South American directors but only Peixoto had) but if they all come out in the next 6 months - 1 year, I'll be happy. There's some obscure/rare titles there that I'd love to see (what's the bets that they'll just get an Eclipse release?)

Wait a minute, Sergei Parajanov? Kino's loss if they didn't snatch the blu rights up.

Too bad Criterion released Easy Rider. I could put a search in for Hopper and be excited if his name came up.

The minute I buy the UK version Criterion will announce it. That is what happened with Certified Copy and Weekend.

It's a shame but at least there's some African directors on there (courtesy of the WCF, I presume) so they are branching out (even if it will probably be Eclipse for most). We can hope for A Page of Madness for Kinugasa too.
