Cool I will pick Ran up then. I have a lot of Kurosawa to get Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and definitely getting Rashomon.

I have Ran and the transfer, while not great, is nowhere near as bad as some would lead you to believe.

It's also debatable if Criterion could have done a better job with what was the source. It's a improvement over the DVD if not a "ultra amazing one". I did decided to keep my DVD from Criterion however instead of selling it.
With a film as colorful as Ran the boost in color Bluray offers makes a very nice difference from the DVD IMO. Still since it is not selling very well, I assume, it would be nice if they just sold the rights back to Criterion. Atleast they would make something off of it.

I don't know why some are dumping on the film because it's so critically acclaimed. Yes, it's on blu-ray but that's Canal region B. Not everyone has a region free player.
Who did that? All I'm asking is which films are being "dumped on" in favor of Mulholland Drive? I'm actually doing the opposite.

I think you'll enjoy Marienbad then. Kubrick was an admirer of Marienbad. You can see the influence it had on him in making The Shining.

Marienbad is one of those films where a)I have to be completely rested and b)not eating anything during the viewing. The film has my undivided attention for the duration.

The beauty of the film is there is no plot. That is, you the viewer, decide what really happened.

Resnais and Robbe-Grillet paid the ultimate sign of respect to the viewer. They didn't spoon-feed any answers. It's all there. One just has to actively engage with it. It's one of a kind.

Ya know what I read back a few pages and I don't know what's going on there to be honest.

The days were much simpler when folks pined for THE GAME, yearned for more Anderson and craved Le Samourai.

I have a question regarding In the Mood For Love:

I read DVDBeaver's review of it, and according to them the image is cropped and colors are boosted compared to the Tartan(?) dvd. Is this true? I only ask because I'm in curious as to check it out before the blu-ray comes out.

It's either true of it isn't. Look at the screencaps. Either Criterion is cropped. or the Tartan shows too much, just like the review says. Since no one can really be sure, it's a non-issue, and it's so slight you can barely tell. Why not wait for the blu to come out and see if the problem is corrected, and check it out in HD then.

It's on Netflix, so I wanted to check it out is all. I was just curious as to this problem. Criterion says they scanned the DVD from an original 35mm negative - or something like that - and by the way they stylized the cover and whatnot, I'm guessing they might have the proper look? Eh, it doesn't bother me so much since I'm sure we'll know the truth come October, as the cinematographer is the one supervising the new transfer.
