You misread him. It's $5 for both the case and the artwork. The reason he paid $10 is so he could get a 2nd case for another title (throwing away the art for the second FAM case).

For Chungking, since it was released in cardboard..... the replacement would only be $5 total, and you'd get the case, and artwork.

I posted this in the 8 1/2 thread but nobody answered me. Does anyone here know why Amazon stopped selling the 8 1/2 blu-ray and put it on product review? I wanted to get it this week, and noticed the disclaimer on their site about this release. Was something wrong with it?

Amazon is strict once it starts receiving complaints. The same thing happened recently (on the anime side with D. Gray Man released earlier this month). Although I didn't have problems, certain people with players had audio syncing problems. When a few start complaining, they'll take it down. A few complaints about packaging to disc getting muffed up to syncing or audio problems, Amazon is very good to respond. I've seen them do the same thing for Universal's Hitchock DVD set.

The only Criterion releases I have read people having problems (from multiple threads) is the recent Kurosawa set (because of the way the discs were placed and people complaining their disc were scratched up). But I haven't read many issues on "8 1/2".

They'll work through whatever the problem is (most likely nothing - people just complaining to them for dumb reasons) and the title will go back up for sale. Until then, you can't order it from them.

OK, thanks for the info. I checked again just a few minutes ago and Amazon has put it back up at 40% off. My birthday is Friday....will be watching this then!

But if that's your thing, then go for it, I say. You only live once.
Same here. I am in good financial shape right now with my car and student loan debts nearly paid off and a good paying job. But I am trying to vut back a little these days because there are looming layoffs at my employer. I think I'll survive the cuts but ya never can be sure.

I am not a Criterion Blu collector. In fact, I don't even own one. Now here is my question for you.

I discovered The Third Man to find out about the cheapest it can be had for is about $59.00 plus shipping because it ls no longer produced. Is this movie that good or worth the $$$$$???????

its a pretty decent movie. i got a few before they went OOP, and i had never seen it before. for a 1940s film, the dialog and script were pretty good. but if youve never seen it b4 i think a $60 price tag would be pretty steep. id say its for collectors only or big fans of the film. unless your willing to buy it, watch it and then re-sell it if you dont like it.

Expect StudioCanal releases in the US via LionsGate.

Is there really a rumor going around that there's plans for a Region A StudioCanal release of The Third Man? It would be funny if there are already plans for a rerelease, considering all of the people that rushed out to buy copies of it once it went OOP to sell later at a higher price.

You are assuming the Studio Canal release would have the same quality as the Criterion version...

I just watched "Lola Montes" (shown on TMC) and I guess I was so energized expecting the same enjoyment I had with "Earrings of Madame de...".

Critic rivals Andrew Sarris has declared "Lola Montes" as "the greatest film of all time" while Pauline Kael called it "disappointing" and "painful to watch".

As a fan of the few Ophuls films that I have seen, I can see why Andrew Sarris was appreciative of his work on this film. But its his words of "Greatest film of all time" that gave me such high expectations for "Lola Montes".

Ophuls is able to capture the beauty through emphasis on cinematography, costume and set design. But for some reason, I have to side with Roger Ebert in his criticism of Martine Carol. I won't go farther than that until I see the upcoming Criterion Blu-ray and give this film another viewing. This time in HD.

There are so many other titles that they will need to release over here....like Belle de Jour on Blu! But I doubt for a re-release so soon...maybe a year or two later.

MOST of the StudioCanal Collection (UK releases) are region A/B.

I've heard nothing but really great things about StudioCanal releases.
Heard it's on par with Criterion/Masters of Cinema.
