I scored it for $17.59 today; now to put aside the time to check the disk out. Not only are so many great movies coming to disk in the coming season, but the theaters are finally getting good ones, too.

That would be pretty neat to see. Probably Elvis' best picture? Criterion's done worse in my estimation.

That just got a pretty good release from Paramount earlier this year. There are other Hitch titles that Criterion could work on - that need work on - like The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934) that was apparently confirmed via email to a member of their Facebook page. Which would be awesome, by the way.

Still better to get something unavailable than get the same thing twice...

There are people who like the Qatsi Trilogy, believe it or not. They're quite vocal on Criterion's Facebook.

I quite like it actually. Not enough to buy it but I'd go see it on a big screen

It's been about 10 years since I saw Naqoyqatsi and I barely remembered it until I saw this thread. I've never seen the other two but maybe in the right frame of mind I would enjoy the entire trilogy together.

My wife and I watched Baraka together. Is that similar?

Since when do we pay attention to what people say on Facebook?

It seems like the Qatsi Trilogy to me too. Qatsi Trilogy = Caught C Trilogy. Not my found, just posting what I saw over CCforum . I have not seen any of them. Opinions?

When I saw the bear trap and the jail I thought of Essential Killing starring Vincent Gallo. But the other one is a lot more clever.

Has to be Caught C trilogy!....god, that's obscure. But I will welcome these on blu with remastered soundtracks.

Heaven's Gate fans might want to check out DVD Savant's entry (at DVDTalk) for Aug 24th of The Reel Thing. The rest of you interested in restoration issues/technology might want to have a look as well.

Lonesome was just awesome! Great video and audio quality as well - much better than I expected! This is definitely one of the best Criterion Blu-rays I've seen yet, right up there with L'Atalante and Modern Times.

Lonesome wasn't even my radar until the reviews started coming out.
I've been on a real silent film bender recently: Sunrise, City Girl, Gold Rush, the Josef von Sternberg silents, silent Ozu's, etc.
Plus, Metropolis is waiting for when I'm not tired and have 2.5 hours up my sleeve.
I think Lonesome and Phantom Carriage might be on my list for the next B&N sale...

You might want to give People on Sunday a look as well. I liked Phantom Carriage just fine but for some reason People on Sunday just floored me.

People on Sunday is indeed great, as is Coeur Fidele if you're Region B enabled.

Like me, for instance. (Only not on Facebook.)

Well, the classic first one, anyway--
The second is too slow, muddy and dusty, and the third is like listening to an ex-60's hippie who just STARTED watching Iraq War footage on CNN.
(Even the most loyal KQ fans have ruined-nostalgia pangs to see how embarrassing and almost self-parodically cornball NQ ends up by the last reel... )

Still, the Glass scores are good, including the Powaqqatsi bits John Williams stole for "Phantom Menace":

Today my bf and I went to B&N and the regular sales lady was there that knows I like Criterion and she told me, aside from the 40% off Blus now, in September they are supposed to have some kind of promotion for Criterions. She didn't know what exactly but that it's something. So, kinda cool.

Thanks for the heads-up. I haven't ordered from DeepDiscount for years so I will be interested how it turns up in Australia. I did buy my first Criterion DVD (Seven Samurai 3-disc) from them back in the day.

Finally! One week ago my last order from the B&N sale arrived - The War Room and Lean Directs Howard. I am beginning to like less and less the "Lean Directs Howard" style box sets. I have yet to have one arrived without blemishes.

Be nice
