Still never seen that one, I donated to Kaufmann's stop-motion Kickstarter though.

I really liked it upon initial viewing, but it's such an uncompromising film that begs to be seen again. I suppose it's rhythms aren't felt until a second or third viewing.

They already did, some 13 years ago. Warner have it now though.

I know how most of you feel about David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, and Wes Anderson. So I was wondering what Modern American Filmmaker should be presented in the collection in your guys opinion? Obviously the three mentioned aren't very popular in this forum so I'm curious to know which you guys think is, oh I hate to say this, Criterion worthy? Also I am aware Nolan is not American so let's just say American/British.

That's a tough one, as soon as an auteur director gains mainstream acceptance they're immediately disqualified as being "worthy" of the CC...

I'm going with Jeff Nichols.

IMO its not so much that a director is mainstream more then they are just ordinary dime a dozen directors. I think Wes Anderson definitely fits into the collection. I admire Fincher and Nolan on a technical level and have always liked Fincher's dark approach to material, but I've always considered Criterion more of a arthouse and foreign film label and none of their films fit that bill to me. Plus they have no problems getting their films released. That being said I have no problem with Criterion releasing popular directors works that are ignored by the other studio's.

I dont know if the word *worthy* is the best word. They take what they can everything from some classic American or Foreign to a movie like Goke Bodysnatcher from Hell or X from Outer Space
I hope some of the titles I want get released soon - Criterion does the best job for their prices. At least its not barebones for 35.00 like Twilight Time sheesh

Worthy is not a word I'd use as I really have no problem with any film or director getting their treatment (even if I hate the film/director), but the man's work that's in your avatar would be my choice. Especially considering there's no US blurays of most of his catalog and the fact that he likes to supervise the HD upgrades himself. I think if he ever did collaborate with criterion it would be really incredible. Some of Herzog's harder to find titles would be terrific too

Woody Allen but his opposition to extras would make a Criterion release pretty reluctant, unfortunately

Watched part 1 of World on a Wire. Some 27 years before the Matrix and Fassbender did it first!

I don't know that these directors are necessarily unpopular as much as people who like them might say as much once, while those who don't like them take the opportunity to mention it every time their names are mentioned.

Off the top of my head, I'd like David O Russell to get Spanking the Monkey in the CC.

I like all three of them, some movies more some less.
So I can add two more modern directors:
Sofia Coppola
Michael Winterbottom

Based upon the previous 2 posts, I'd like to see:

Sofia Coppola: both Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette (Although Lost In Translation might be the best fit, but since it already has a Blu...)
David O. Russell: I Heart Huckabees
