I like them all. Although the cover for Following is the weakest, IMO.

So I finally watched "Blue" from The Three Colors Trilogy. Wow, amazing film.

Can't wait to watch the next two.

Because I'm looking forward for Ivory's Maurice in Bluray.
I don't think they'll upgrade everything with some of their films going OOP. However, if you take a look at the collection sorted by spine in ascending order they do seem to be making an effort to upgrade many of their earliest releases.

It is a very logical choice...I would also highly recommend his Vivre Sa Vie if it interests you.
Haha I forgot about that film, veeery different from what I have established so I can see the need to differentiate. I have ordered Breathless and I already have Pierrot Le Fou so I think I will start there, the concept of Vivre Sa Vie sounds very intriguing to me so I will look to rent that once I've seen Breathless. I've also read a little bit about Band Of Outsiders and the plot seems quite appealing.

Seems to be the general consensus, I have Pierrot Le Fou and I plan on ordering Breathless so I will begin there with regards to Godard. If I enjoy those two, as I expect I shall, I will look into Band of Outsiders, Vivre Sa Vie etc.

Weekend seems to be quite polarising, from what I have read, so it may not be, as you state, the best place to start

I know it's been discussed in the past, but Hoop Dreams definitely won't be. I had a lovely conversation with Kartemquin Films the other day about the movie and how it would not be upgraded because it was shot on Betacam. They also gave me with this link/awesome pic showing the film in its original form:

Actually, The Remains of the Day was produced by Sony and they control the Home Entertainment rights. So perhaps it will be at one point.

This is the Merchant Ivory film I'd most like to see in the Collection. I prefer it to Howard's End. It's such a good film.

Same here. Normally this would fall in my 'I wouldn't mind if they get it but a regular release would probably be fine too' but I don't that's the case here.

The chances of Sony releasing this directly are somewhere around nil and of their various licensees Criterion is the only really shot a a decent supplement package (or any supplements at all, for that matter).

I would love for A Room With A View and The Remains Of The Day to be released by Criterion. I know there's been a lot of criticism on here about movies that Criterion doesn't need to release, that they could get acceptable releases from almost any other company, but selfishly I prefer it when a personal favorite of mine comes out with the big C on it. I know it's getting the best possible presentation and supplements.

Can anyone explain to me why Criterion does not offer digital copies with their releases. I would love to have my Criterion collection available on my mobile devices. At Criterions price point it seems ludicrous at this point in time that they offer no digital copies.

Just watched Umberto D. for the first time and absolutely loved it. That last half hour especially really makes you appreciate just how beautiful the film is. Very happy I nabbed this one.

Criterion may believe their niche market of people aren't interested in watching films on mobile devices. I don't do it myself. When I get a digital copy with a WB or Universal release I give them away.

Has there been any news about The Bad Sleep Well getting the Blu-ray treatment? Or at least a refurbished DVD as the current one is disappointing. I believe it has been released on blu in Japan a few years ago.

With Brazil and Rashomon graduating recently the list is starting to shape up nicely. Any of these would make for excellent blu-rays.

Most Requested Criterion Collection Blu-ray (Cumulative)
  • Badlands
  • A Man Escaped
  • A Brighter Summer Day
  • Touch of Evil
  • La Dolce Vita
  • Le Samourai
  • The Cranes are Flying
  • The BRD Trilogy
  • The Diving Bell and The Butterfly
  • Alice in the Cities
  • Le Petit Soldat

I know Diving Bell already has a Canadian Blu release, but if Criterion released it and included Assigné à résidence as a special feature i would happily repurchase it.
