Do you think Criterion (or MoC, StudioCanal, etc) will ever release The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari?

I have never seen that film, but I'm very interested in it.
Don't even really care about BD or not, I'd be happy with a DVD release.

Last Temptation of Christ, I kind of think since Universal never released a DVD version themselves I am sure they are very ok with Criterion doing the BD release when time permits.

I think Universal is really aware of the sales for titles like Dazed / Fear / and Brazil, but I think they also know how well the Criterion editions have sold.

I think Universal released Dazed what seems like 3 or 4 times on DVD before Criterion issued their special edition.

As for FEAR and Loathing, well I want to buy it but I am gonna pass on the slight Universal BD release. I want the exclusive Criterion commentary tracks etc.
The Criterion/Universal "alliance" if you will, has been one of the best symbiotic relationships in the video industry. Criterion get to license deserving films with larger fanbases to produce more revenue for themselves, and Universal often benefits from utilizing the CC master of their film on a barebones/minimal extras DVD that they sell at a lower price, attracting the many fans who want the film but either don't care about extras or those who don't want to pay Criterion prices.

I believe I remember reading a post over on criterionforum.org from Nick at MOC about trying to get "Caligari" squared away for some time now. Not sure of the status, though.

In the US, Kino is probably gonna release Caligari eventually. Their release of The General was quite good, and they have already confirmed they plan to release Our Hospitality, Sherlock Jr., and the restored Metropolis in 2010/2011.

Caligari, along with The Black Pirate, Nosferatu, Birth of a Nation, etc. seem to be their "staple" silent films.

I do the same thing. I put my Criterion dvds and blu's together by spine #. They are already all different sizes anyways, so I think it looks okay.

Finally received my "Gimme Shelter" Blu-ray from Deep Discount. Slower service than what I am accustomed to with BN, Amazon and even Tower.com.

used borders.com to find a Third Man.
It's in stock, reserved in my name.

But I don't feel like driving the 98 miles to get it.

Yeah, that's a bit silly. Ask if they're able to ship it for you? A long shot, I'm sure, but ya never know.

I see... thank you - I didn't realise that those titles were still being sold as digipaks only at this point. Probably because when I recently tried to track down "The Third Man" I saw that it was available in both packaging styles, and assumed that the others would be too...

Here's the thing about that transfer: apparently approved by Lee and Dickerson.

I think it's plausible (though not certain) that they felt that the old color timing that had been done for SD in 2000/2001 was simply too far into the oranges/reds with the added resolution/benefit of a new HD transfer. This may be similar to the Bram Stroker's Dracula color timing changes as detailed by Robert Harris (where the BD differs greatly from prior home video releases but supposedly matches the original answer print much more closely).

When I worked at Borders (although it has been a few years), we were able to ship items to customers as long as they gave their CC info over the phone and paid a shipping charge.

r u guys a part of 'The Auteurs' website? it appears Criterion is spending $ on it and sponsoring some of the streaming films on that site. so it's some business... but also a lot of social aspects of it. just FYI =).

Yep...It's a cool site. They are working into trying to incorporate ideas that users may have. Definitely auteur driven and a site where many film school students, filmmakers and professors are part of.

Did anyone else order Paris, TX from Barnes & Noble only to have it be delayed? I ordered it with 2 other Blu-Rays in the buy 2 get 1 free sale. They shipped my other 2 a couple of days ago (scheduled to arrive today) but Paris TX still hasn't shipped and they haven't updated the status of it yet (says expected ship date is Jan 26). I don't know what to do

in sort of the same boat kind of.... I noticed none of my area stores got in Paris Texas on BLU at all but all stores got abotu 2 copies of the DVD go figure. At any rate the dept mangr of a local store ordered me in a copy to come to sthe store, but usually it takes a couple of days. As of yesterday he said that it shows confirmed from the WHSE and could be there at any time, but it wouldn't give an expected date for him which he thought was odd.

So yesterday I already had the War Trilogy box set (DVD) on hold and was also gonna pick up the Last Emperor mainly because I needed another excuse to send Criterion another 5.00 payment for a case haha. :-)

Back to the War trilogy etc... We went ahead and I did a puchase for the two other released plus paris texas so that I already had it paid for once they got it in stock, then I would only have to pick it up. (they do ship to home also FYI) But I didn't want to miss out on sale and usually ship to store is faster, most of the time.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. What frustrates me is that the item listing still says "Ships in 24 Hours." Um no it doesn't, it's been over 96 hours since the release day and still no shipment. But I guess they just didn't get their shipment yet or something and they'll get it sorted it.
