Interesting NYT article on Heaven's Gate. The film may be more interesting than I'd expected.

I'm posting late, I know, but here's my little order from Criterion's 50% off flash sale. As usual, I really wanted to order a lot more, but this time I had some discipline and restraint, buying a few titles I'd wanted for a relatively long time.

Dazed and Confused
Robinson Crusoe on Mars
; and
Eclipse Series 30: Sabu! (including Elephant Boy; The Drum; and Jungle Book)

With the 50% off, sales tax plus the $25 gift certificate I'd had waiting for me for a long while, the total came to $40.73 or $8.15 for each of the five films. Not bad.

Joe, i enjoy your posts but this makes *zero* sense.

If i only purchased Criterion films and refused to watch/purchase others, you would have a point. My purchasing, and eventual viewing, of the entire collection on blu doesn't limit what films I'm exposed to, it expands on it.

I just saw this post. May I recommend this set, then (see below).

It is superb. Criterion should have brought these films to Blu-ray. Lumière d'été is easily one of the greatest 40s French films. And this new release is so much better than the old R2 French release I have.

Regardless of the fact that these are available on DVD only, don't hesitate to pick up this set. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. This is brilliant cinema

You have to be a self adoring film snob to "get it".

How can it really be a Blu-ray if it isn't blue?!? It makes no sense!!!

Totally agree with this. I loved all of these films, particularly Lumière d'été and Remorques.
Some of the best films I've watched recently have been Eclipse and Criterion DVDs

The Gremillon set was one of Criterion's best releases this year but it's slightly disappointing that it was an Eclipse. In France, there's a DVD of Remorques with extras.

I love packaging fetishes.

On one hand, you have Steelbook addicts who buy whatever they find at an unbelievable price, even if they don't like the movie or can't even play the disc.
On the other, you have people who don't buy movies they like because the case is DVD-sized or they are not pleased by the cover.

But about the case not being blue, that's a first for me.

But anyway. I absolutely hate the curaçao blue cases, so...

Same here with Safari v. 6.0.1, Firefox 15.0.1 and Chrome 22.0.1229.79 under Mac OS 10.8.2.

I remember I checked THE ORGANIZER page here a while ago and I assumed that, for whatever the reason, you had no review on it.

Those were among the very first Criterion blu-rays I picked up as well. Excellent choices. They are all very straightforward and enjoyable, you will probably be wanting more as soon as you get through with them.

I know you trolling, but anyway...

I particularly like the clear cases, just because it allows for double sided artwork.

They look a little classier than the standard blu-ray case. At least we don't have to worry about Criterion using eco cases or anything like that.

Thank you, Roy

I think that both of these reviews were affected by the crash. I actually removed some extra characters that were added in the text fields (I assume during the crash) after I saw HyperRealist's post.

I can see the reviews, but it seems like regular members, or at least a pretty good number of members, can't. There are other administrators that can see them as well, so it is definitely crash related.

The reviews will be fixed
