I ordered "Paris, Texas" during the sale, as well, but my copy, luckily, is out for delivery to my house today. I'm in Rhode Island and the copy shipped from Nevada after I had received the "delayed shipment" e-mail, as well, earlier this week.

It seems like standard practice for Barnes & Noble, I guess, to try and cover their arses. My copy of the "War Trilogy" has prompted them to send me the same e-mail for it, too.

I was just talking to my friend who works in the DVD/Music dept at Barnes & Noble he said that the reason a lot of orders weren't shipping and should be clearing up esp today was that their system had issue where every special order that was placed they doubled and they had to do something to the system to correct it and it delayed everything big time, but he said it should be clearing up.

That is what I was told of course and seems likely, but For Paris Texas orders it seems like they may have over ordered DVDs and skimped on the BD releases and are trying to do their best to fill them, possibly?

After I've spent much time to figure out a way how to play the Criterion blu-rays on something in my house(PS3, PC) being from Europe(Bosnia&Herzegovina to bi precise), and being a big fan of the Criterion Collection, I've ordered the Chungking Express Blu-ray as it is my favorite movie Criterion movie on BR. Anyway, it arrived today and I'm all excited. So that's about it, I just wanted to share my happiness and enthusiasm with others.

PS

I've orderd Pierrot le fou and Gomorrah too, can't wait for'em. Thx for listening

Good to hear, alen. Obviously, it's not within everyone's budget these days to afford a region-free blu-ray player, so it's nice to hear that you've found a way to enjoy these region-A Criterion titles.

Look's like Rosselini's War Trilogy is receiving perfect reviews. Not surprising since this is one Criterion release that people have been waiting for a very long time (or waiting for pristine versions for the film for a very long time).

I was at my local B&N last night doing some browsing since the B2G1 sale will be ending soon. They did have Paris, Texas on Blu-ray, but I'd already received my copy from Amazon.

I placed an order earlier this week from B&N.com for the region B Belle de Jour Blu-ray (although I'm not sure why they are carrying it). I got the same e-mail about the shipping delay, but it eventually shipped. It sounds like the delay had more to do with technical problems than any particular title.

per the last post regarding Rosselini's War Trilogy DVD release, The box set is getting very high marks but don't be surprised over the transfers, I know this is the best they have looked, the films were very badly damged and the like, and that I hear they are far from pristine, but this is the best that couold be done at this time.

I did buy the set and I am very excited no matter how damged or worn they may or may not look doesn't distract since this is as good as it may get, I just WISH they did a BD box set for them. I wanted that badly.

is the rosselini trilogy gonna on BD? i know that they have two separate teams now, 1 doing DVD, 1 doing BD transfers.

i'm hoping that in the future, the two teams merge and just become 1, focused on BD, while DVD's can simply be the "dowrez" cousin.

Right, so I absolutely want the Rosselini boxset. But I'm torn because it's something that I think is inevitable on Blu-ray. What to do, what to do....
(I have managed to resist with The Human Condition so far, but I might crumble and buy both when B&N have another 50% sale)

Actually they have been doing High Definition masters for years, if you look at the specs and listings on the back of any DVD release in the past several years. The thing is do they do a BD release or pass.

So I would take it they have been doing HD transfers for a while now it just seems to come down to choice of doing the BD release or just a DVD one only? Right?

if that was true... wouldn't you be seeing more BD releases from Criterion right away? i think hey are STORING it in HD, which makes it easy to go back and touch it up... otherwise 7 Samurai would've been released this March w/Yojimbo&Sanjuro. i think they take the master of what they did w/the 3 disc for 7 Sam. and are now tweaking it. i don't think they've FINISHED tweakin the work for BD when they were doing the DVD 3 Disc. if they did, they could've just released it =P.

So I guess Paris, Texas is gonna be another Gommorah, in that I can't find it in any stores and none seem to be on the way either. Why does my Best Buy only get about half of the released titles in when they're released? Very annoying.

And one of the staples the "etc." was meant to cover, Battleship Potemkin, is coming from Kino in April.

damn, MoC's M is coming out next month too, Godard's Breathless as well, need to sell a kidney to buy all these new/not so old releases. I'm sure that Battleship is going to be awesome, are there any news on a Citizen Kane, The Passion of Joan of Arc(or something else from Dreyer) BD transfer? And btw. are these Criterion replacement cases available for other countries or is it just USA and Canada?

A lot of the HD transfers older than the last 2 years aren't up to snuff for BD standards as stated by Criterion themselves. A lot of the titles had to have more work done to get a proper blu release.

But Criterion are pretty tight lipped about how they decide to release BDs...

For me it's the other way around, I bought Paris, Texas in the B2G1 too but actually got it very fast (yesterday) and before the other titles.

I'd buy it now...you can easily sell it and get probably near the same or more than what you paid for it later. Criterion releases esp. box sets, people still pay a lot for used versions.

Also, you don't know when it will be on Blu. It's like Criterion fans waiting for LD titles to go on DVD and now people waiting for DVD titles to go on Blu... You'll wait and wait and next thing you know...a new format will be out.
