Don't know, but they've got such low prices. I just bought another item from this seller for $1 (even though all the other sellers have it for over $10). I figured it was a low enough price to take whatever 'risk' there...

Anyway, I'm actually curious to know your thoughts on the films in this set.

Something is very wrong with that seller's store, they are going to wake up to a big surprise tomorrow. Hundreds of orders they will likely have to cancel. If I get the thing I just bought for $1, you'll be able to hear me laughing maniacally and crapping my pants from anywhere on the planet.

Has anyone here had any problems with the blu-ray for Summer Hours? I bought it a while ago (last B&N sale probably) and just got around to watching it. It all of a sudden came to its own pause somewhere between 51:00 and 52:00. Then I tried to fast forward and it was a bit "jumpy" and I couldn't actually get it to play until a little after the one hour mark.

Has anyone contacted Criterion directly about a faulty disc? How was that experience?

I've been wanting to watch this movie for a long time and I finally had the time tonight.

First, do you have another player to try it on, to rule out a player/firmware issue? Second, are there any visible, large scratches on the data side? I don't own that film so I can't try it, but, Criterion is very helpful in my experience and I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced your disc and gave you something extra, too.

Those are good suggestions. I only have a PS3 and I have the firmware up to date. I have around 70 Criterion blu-ray titles and I have not had any problems so far. This title is actually somewhat older in their catalog so I wouldn't expect it to be any different. I tried my computer's blu-ray drive but apparently I have lost all ability to play even older discs. (I kind of knew that already. For the price of decent blu-ray playing software I might as well just buy another player. The blu-ray function of the drive is only good for reading data and burning.) If my brother remembers to visit me this weekend I will ask him to bring his laptop, which has a blu-ray player. I might also try my parents' player if I go to their house in the near future.

I looked at the data side of the disc and didn't see any scratches specifically. I don't think I have the proper kind of cloth to wipe discs. (Normally not an issue because I am very careful with them.)

Not me, it might just be your copy. Happened to me once after buying a title during the sale, too....I exchanged it in-store.

Heh. Usually when something like this happens to a seller, I don't feel too sorry for them when I think about all the work they'll have to do to undo it. The reason being that I usually attribute these things to sellers using automated software to undercut other sellers' prices by a penny or two (which to me is cheating) and that software going haywire in some way.

This is what I worry about buying movies and not watching them for months (sometimes even years). I have fallen out of the return policy time frame.

I've had my copy for a couple of years and I've watched it a few times with no trouble. Contact Criterion about a faulty disc...

Anybody gotten any communications from Criterion in response to any problems lately? I emailed Mulvavey regarding my black and unreadable cover art on The Game two or more weeks ago, and heard nada. I bought it from Amazon, but I'm afraid if I exchange it I'll just get another one of the same. Think it's worth emailing again?
