Incredibly happy to see more Tarkovsky Blu, even if it really should have been Andrei Rublev first. More Hitchcock is fantastic, and it's nice to see The Tin Drum finally make an appearance. Not too fussed about Pina (again, much more important Wenders needs putting out first!) and Two Lane Blacktop is a disappointment since the MoC disc looked pretty poor. Unless they've got a new transfer or something, I'll leave it.

Good month though.

Indeed it is mate. 3D is stated on the page.

Hmm. Well, count me in for all of those.

Now I guess I need to add a 3D TV to the wish list...I can stand 3D versions of other films on the shelf saying "watch me when you finally get one", but a Criterion will probably scream "get one now and watch me, damnit!"

Not a 3D fan, but that must be a first for the collection.

Please don't tell me it will have some cheesy lenticular slipcase...

Huh, a 3D release from Criterion presents a problem for me. I have a 3D tele but only my Region B player is 3D. My Region A player (pretty much exclusively used for Criterions) isn't.

How annoying.

Ivan's Childhood for me!

Been waiting for Criterion to upgrade it to Blu-ray for a long while now. Glad to see my waiting finally paid off.

I wonder what the likelihood is of a Criterion Hitchcock box down the road with 39 Steps, Lady Vanishes, Man and Foreign Correspondent. Perhaps they could rescue a couple more 30's films from public domain hell?

Tin Drum for me! Hopefully, it will be better video quality than the Arrow UK Blu-ray.

It looks like the Arrow edition of Tin Drum is the way to go if you're region free as it also has the theatrical version with director's commentary, which the Criterion seems to lack.

No. There was a Canadian release, but not a US release.

And yes, Criterion's will be 3D.

It's definite that the Criterion Blu-ray will only have the director's cut? And which version is better - the director's cut or theatrical?

I assume they would mention it in the features if it was included. The director's cut is probably better but it's always nice to have both, especially when the theatrical has a commentary track.

From The Man Who Knew Too Much extras-

The Illustrated Hitchcock (an extensive interview with director Alfred Hitchcock from 1972, conducted by journalist Pia Lindstrom and film historian William Everson)

A little digging indicates this is a 34 minute piece. Very nice!

The Director's Cut is the version the director had originally wanted, but was forced to cut it by the studio; I understand wanting to have the theatrical version, but I think the Director's Cut is the one to hold onto. It's the director's original vision and the one he wanted us to watch.

I'm in for Hitchcock and Pina. The rest - I already own the MoC version and Tn Drum and Ivan's didn't excite me when I first saw them.

Amazing line-up! Probably will get them all. Really great to see another Tarkovsky/Hitchcock on Blu-ray. Also the first 3D Criterion Blu-ray. Eventhough I currently don't own a 3D-player... this somehow makes me want to get one. I also hope we will see more of Wenders in the future. Just had the chance to watch "The State of Things" in cinema last week. Damn what a great flick! Sam Fuller playing a DP and Roger Corman is starring in it as well. Definitely Criterion worthy imo.
I actually have never seen "The Tin Drum" and was just thinking about picking up the Arrow disc, which now of course I probably won't...

Finally, an awesome lineup. I'm probably in for all 5, since my gf is a dancer... I'm sure she'll want Pina. Never seen it though, but I'm a huge Wenders fan...

Not Criterion related, but speaking of Hellman... anyone know what happened to The Shooting/Ride in the Whirlwind blu that was supposed to come out in August?
