That is very tempting

I'll have to drain out my pool and fill it with all my DVDs and Blu-Rays and then dive in!

Not looking good for us...just noticed this new negative feedback comment on the seller's profile:

Quote:
I must say I'm VERY disappointed with that cancelation (order XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX). The items were available when I ordered them. I'm not satisfied with your explanation (or lack of) about the cancelation. I think the order was canceled because I bought the Motown boxes for one dolar each. I'm VERY disappointed.
But the more you paid, perhaps the less likely they'll notice the problem, so you might be OK with your BBS set, iScottie?

Interestingly, there was also mention of a pre-code title during the Warner discussion that was quickly hushed up. That probably scuppers the idea that its limited to living directors only.

  • Le Samourai? possibly, at some point in the not too distant future
  • In A Lonely Place? no
  • World Cinema Foundation/Film Foundation - trying to work out WCF titles similar to foreign box set release
  • Film Foundation restorations will always come out on BD if Criterion has them (Richard III, Colonel Blimp coming to Blu-ray)
  • Andrei Rublev? restoration progressing in Russia - "desparately want to rerelease"
  • Cimino made some small changes to Heaven's Gate (some dialogue, removed intermission)
  • Some Eclipse may upgrade to Blu-ray! Les Miserables (Bernard) has restoration and may become a mainline title
  • Apu Trilogy? in progress, another Ray title in 2013 (Apu Trilogy or other title)
  • Some fun documentaries coming up
  • releasing Shoah + 3 shorts
  • releasing The Devil's Backbone (Del Toro) - mid-2013
  • releasing On The Waterfront in 3 aspect ratios
Kim actually confirms Darling for next year (i think). Also, are you sure that she/he said no for In a Lonely Place?

I wonder which mystery boutique label did get the rights to In a Lonely Place?

[A comment from Twilight Time indicated they were turned down for the rights in favor of another boutique label]

I haven't seen this movie, but it sounds great. Hopefully there will be a sale on "Cronos" at the same time of The Devil's Backbone's release.

I really wish DeepDiscount would do more Deal of the Days on Criterions. I remember they did one with "Quadrophenia", but unfortunately none for "In The Mood For Love" or "The Forgiveness Of Blood". Hopefully next week, with the release of Sunday Bloody Sunday, they'll do another one!

Yeah, who's left...Image or Mill Creek? I don't think Kino is in the mix (though I would love to see them get in there).

Image getting it wouldn't be the end of the world though. For twelve bucks their bare bones of The Odessa File was very good.

Someone on CF reminded me it's a possibility Olive got the rights. It'd be kind of disappointing in that Olive is capable of a good release but not a great one as the film deserves. Although, they'd be getting a stellar hd master from Sony..

Honestly.... I "get" Marienbad and all that, but, given the choice between suicide and sitting through that movie, the option I would pick would depend greatly on my mood that day.

(So far that's the only Criterion title I would say anything close to that about...Tiny Furniture included)

Now, M, yes.

When Cronos was released you could pre-order signed copies from Amoeba Records. Maybe they'll go this route again.

I thought about Olive but their plate seems pretty full tearing through Paramount/Republic stuff. Have they worked with Sony in the past?

No, no official word from them either way afaik.

All the licensing talk is based on a comment from Twilight Time. And, well, the fact that Sony doesn't release much of anything themselves these days.

How about I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang for the pre-code? That seems like one that would be right up Criterion's alley.
