Warner's stance on The Devils does baffle me a little bit. For example, not letting the BFI release it in HD - what possible reason could they have for that? If they hate being associated with it so much, they should just sell the rights altogether.

But then someone else could release it - their intent is to suppress the film completely. I don't know how the BFI even persuaded them to release a DVD.

An Amazon Marketplace seller has Kiss of the Spider Woman for $3.91 shipped new. Cart shows 34 copies available.

Always thought it would have been licensed to Criterion.

I have some hope that The Thing from Another World is on that list.

I've wondered the same thing about Berlin Alexanderplatz, assuming that ever gets an upgrade. I've held off on buying it because i know as soon as i do they'll announce it on blu, but I'm sure a 5-6 disc criterion blu set will be pretty pricey.

BBC Planet Earth 550 minutes 4 disc
BBC Life 485 minutes 3 disc

500 minute Shoah plus 3 short films, gotta believe that's 4 disc.

Yes, but we can always hold a sliver of hope. If Criterion was able to pry open the vault of the perpetually uninterested and stubborn Warner Bros. who knows what other types of miracles they've accomplished.

I'm not holding my breath, which is why I bought the BFI DVD, but I'm not giving up hope either.

BA was filmed 16mm, so I can't imagine Criterion bothering with an upgrade. The improvement over DVD would be visible, but it wouldn't be near as impressive as most of their other upgrades are. The amount of people spending another $100 on the set for a small upgrade would be quite few, it probably wouldn't even clear a profit.

So I'm sure you're safe to buy it. B&N sale in a few weeks

I downloaded the new HD master off iTunes. It looks fantastic. But Warner pulled it after only a few days.

Everlasting Moments was shot in 16mm and it looks fantastic. 16mm still has more resolution than blu-ray.

Even 8mm is 'good enough' for Blu-Ray

Just sold my old 1998 DVD release of Samurai Trilogy on eBay. It went for $41! You could buy the far superior, 2012 re-release for that much brand new from Amazon.

I feel sorta bad. Maybe the guy doesn't know it was reprinted or something...

Ah well, since I spent $35 on the Blu-ray that actually nets me a profit!

I would have thought the same thing, but World On A Wire was also filmed in 16 mm, and it looks phenomenal on blu-ray.
