Oh well...it was worth a try!
Good job on finding a new copy of PLF. I was able to find a copy of TMWFTE, TTM and PLF BD editions this week from a guy on craigslist and bought them all off him for 160$

Well, that's before you add on the $5 cost for shipping.

$18 +tax during the B&N sounds better to me!

What are the chances of a Criterion release of The Pianist?

Slim. Don't Studio Canal have it and haven't they released a VERY strong Blu-ray release already? Pick that up.

In the U.S. Universal has the rights, so there is no reason not. Universal released it on HD DVD but has yet to on Blu ray.

Criterion have released sets of Frampton and Brakhage (and Painleve on DVD), would anyone here recommend them?
Go for them . Paul Sharits is a good one too as Greg said. Straub-Huillet are ones you should check out too. If you find some Benning father or daughter films you should share them here . You should watch some Ximena Cuevas too, one of the few Mexican experimental filmmakers. She hasn't made a lot of films but some of them are among my favorite experimental works. Las Victimas del Pecado Neoliberal is among my top experimental films .

Anyone know of a list, or maybe just off the top of your head, which Criterion DVD's are likely to *NOT* receive a blu-ray treatment?

Maybe some movies we know for sure Criterion lost the rights to and probably won't get back...?

(man! no idea Pierret le Fou, Third Man, and The Man Who Fell to Earth were going for so much!! I don't know how I lucked out at these so cheap!!)

^Ran seems to be one sad item on that list in addition to the ones you mentioned.

How dark is the faulty cover? I own a copy and I can't tell which version it is.

It must be the good one then, some of the text is quite dark but it is easily legible.

Are Au Revoir Les Enfants, La Haine, and Le Cercle Rouge any good? They sound great!

Au Revoir Les Enfants is the one id take from the bunch. Easily one of my very favourite films about Jews during WWII. If you're a fan of their respective genres, I'd say get them all.

Weekend - Just finished viewing it. Our review will be up very late tonight. Simply an outstanding presentation, yet again, from Criterion.

Releases like this one are one of many reasons why they are the best in the business. Period.

La Haine is one of my all time favorite films. It's more than good, it's magic.

Great news.

So, the official title really isn't Week End, but Weekend? I feel like I've always read it being Week End (or I guess that's the original non-American title).

It's definitely two words. Technically it's Week-end, with a hyphen. That's the French translation. The original French poster also has the title hyphenated. The film's opening titles has it as two words also. I'm surprised Criterion is going with the Anglo-American spelling.
