Ended up ordering

The Battle of Algiers*
Brazil*
Fanny & Alexander*
Harakiri*
In the Mood for Love*
Last Year at Marienbad
Late Spring*
The Magician
Paths of Glory
Rosemary's Baby
Rashomon*
Shock Corridor
The Seventh Seal*
Weekend
World on a Wire

The ones marked with * are all upgrades for me. So I will probably get some of my money back selling off the DVDs.

Total = $342.19 including shipping to Denmark

I am considering a few more. I just discovered that I forgot to order Vivre sa vie which I had planned to get, so if I am going to order it, I might as well order 1-2 titles more to split the postage.

Just placed my order.

Shipping shortly:
Eating Raoul
Tokyo Drifter
White Material

...all blind-buys, so I hope they're good.

Pre-orders:
Following
Rashomon
The Trilogy of Life
The Qatsi Trilogy

Out of these, the only blind-buy is the Trilogy of Life.

Grand total: $179.93. For eleven (Criterion) movies, an average of $16.36 each is not bad.

These are the films I will pick up today, assuming they're in stock:

Rosemary's Baby
Fat Girl
Godzilla
If...
The Last Emperor
Late Spring
Rushmore
Red Shoes
The Naked Kiss
Pierrot Le Fou
Repulsion
Summer with Monika
The Wages of Fear

Recommend me seven more. Nothing too modern from today's age, if you will.

Just wanna let you guys know that we have a brand-new Criterion Collection ranking thread at the Movies sub-forum, complete with synopsis, trailers, IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes ratings, and a tally of votes for each film.

It could also be bookmarked and used as a guide for blind-buys and first-time viewings. You're welcome to post your lists there too. I will update it as often as I can.

Good luck trying to find Pierrot Le Fou; it's out of print.

As far as recommendations go, you certainly can't go wrong with the Hitchcock (Lady Vanishes, 39 Steps) or Chaplin films (Gold Rush, Great Dictator). 12 Angry Men, Island of Lost Souls, The Killing, Paths of Glory, and A Night to Remember are some other really nice English-spoken films. For foreign films, The Seventh Seal, Seven Samurai, 8 1/2, Battle of Algiers, Diabolique, Harakiri, High and Low, and M should all be must-sees.

Good job man. It's a fine-looking list/guide so far.

A Night to Remember blew me away. Such an amazing film and it is super gorgeous on blu.

I think if someone is getting Repulsion they might as well get cul-de-sac as well. Not as good a movie (Repulsion is a masterpiece, IMO) but still a very good film and Donald Pleasence gives an excellent peformance.

I also recommend Sweet Smell of Success very highly. Amazing film and, again, gorgeous on blu.

Thinking about Brazil and Purple Noon.

I've never seen Rosemary's Baby, so I may check out the DVD from the library (just in time for Halloween). Depending on my take and budget could add it. Plenty of upgrade temptations, but I just spent a lot on computer gear for the HT. So many choices! Criterion binge vs. not having to eat cat food for a month.

I pre-ordered Brazil because I know that I love the film. Had Purple Noon in my cart but decided against it because I want to see it before I purchase it (and I have about five to six others I know that I want right now). I may like it okay but never want to see it again. I'd rather see it on Hulu if possible and then get it during the next Criterion sale or on sale elsewhere if that happens.

quoted for the truth, i love Repulsion.

Never used B&N before, so only put a small order in to test the waters in terms of delivery time to England (priority shipping) and customs.

I didn't like that film the first time I saw it, but for some reason, it stuck with me. Plus, now that it's OOP, I just might try to look for it. I know I saw one the last time I was at B&N, so there are a few more copies around.

I have to buy snow tires, but I get paid 3x this month and I ended up cancelling the preorders on several of the films I purchased anyways. The only film I never reordered was Forgiveness of Blood, the faux Albanian film. I broke down and got Unblock Us, and it's now showing up on US Netflix so I'll check it out on there.

Yet again I put off grabbing The Mikado, but again, US Netflix has it.

Also, FYI, Unblock Us allows for access to Brazilian, Mexican, Irish, British, Canadian, and Swedish Netflix at the moment, you just switch one you want withibg your unblock us account. Swedish Netflix has a lot of interesting foreign films but absolutely no Ingmar Bergman films when I checked two weeks ago. I am amused by that. Unblock us is totally worth the 5 bucks a month over paying 40 bucks for cable.

Any recommendations of Samurai films from the CC? I never saw a samurai film until I watched the MOC Harakiri and the CC of Seven Samurai and both blew me away. I'm already getting Rashomon but are there others? Loved how the 2 films I've seen so far are mostly drama/tension/great story telling and not just about the fighting, so looking for more of the same.

Yojimbo any good? I see it's also a Kurosawa film.

It's my favourite. Buy it in the box set with the sequel Sanjuro!

Yojimbo is great. Get it and its sequel Sanjuro in the box-set. Highly recommended.
Also, Three Outlaw Samurai is a lot of fun and The Samurai Trilogy is really worth the time and money.
