Bought it this sale, still need to get it in my hands but I am REALLY anticipating it. This, Jeanne Dielman and the Teshigahara set are very high on my "to-see" list .

The Teshigahara set is fantastic! Desperately hoping they upgrade the whole set to Blu, though not holding my breath.

My gf placed an order for Christmas and she had problems with her order being confirmed/processed/etc. She got a hold of the customer representative and apparently the hurricane is having an affect on orders. Just fyi should anyone else come across a similar problem. It sounds like it'll just take a bit more time for things to go through...

...now, to wonder what she got me, hmmmm...perhaps the Bergman eclipse set I've been wanting...

What I meant was from a financial point of view, as in, if I pre-order it, when will it show up on my CC bill? (I live in Canada)

No. Not until they ship, like every other retailer. I've never had B&N charge me before shipping, even to place "hold" like some people get. I also live in Canada and have bought quite a bit from them. You'll have to wait a month though because customs likes to delay B&N orders. However, amazon US has become almost as slow as of late.

I ship to my sister who's living in the states right now, and she brings them here when she comes up. so screw customs :P

So, should I order it now? because I have emailed B&N of this http://i.imgur.com/ijAyf.jpg that has showed up when the page for the criterion collection doesn't load properly. I've emailed their customer support, but they haven't answered

Yes. I've ordered 4 preorders this sale.

In fact, everything but the preorders have shipped. B&N was nice enough to ship Eating Raoul and Vivre Sa vie today even though they were supposed to ship with Week End. I wonder if Rashomon will ship on the 6th now as I added that to that order too.

B&N also were nice enough to split my 103 dollar order into 3 shipments:

Black Orpheus
In the mood for love
Rosemary's baby

Bonanza

Breathless

So yeah, 4 parcels on the way right now.

I've always had preorders ship on release day with B&N.

hmm......that also makes me feel like I should order Following as well (even though I have the "OOP" dvd version) but I don't want to get shit from my parents because I'm ordering so much. Maybe I should just stick to HG and Brazil and let them show up on the bill as 2 different purchases.

Forgive me if I'm repeating myself (I get confused when I write between here and the B&N thread in the Movie Deals section), but I bought my first Criterion blurays last summer ... most of them through the B&N 50% off sale in July. I felt like the salesclerk I dealt with bent over backwards to give me the best deal he could ... especially by allowing me to stack coupons. So yesterday, I went to the same store and sought out the same salesperson. This time around, he wouldn't let me use any coupons at all (although he did allow me to use a $5 buzz code). So be it. I try not to get too bent out of shape over the coupons
[Show spoiler](although sometimes it still happens. )
. If it works, it works ... if it doesn't, it doesn't. Of course, like anybody, I want the best deal I can get, but I'm also content getting 50% off (+ the 10% B&N member discount). It's all good.

I forget when Following comes out, but isn't it different from Brazil? You'd have 3 shipments if so. My parents stopped caring about what I buy long ago. In fact, my mom now asks when I order stuff so she can save on shipping by ordering with me. I ship everything to their house because I live in an apartment in the Ghetto of HRM, the dark side, dirty Dartmouth. at least I know my stuff will arrive if I ship it to central NS.

Well, I live just north of Toronto, in a "different" ghetto . I think Following comes out the same day as Brazil, but I think I might pass on it this time, I still need to watch the DVD first.

The next time my sister is coming up is 2 weeks, so I planned out my B&N order to arrive when they come up. My Chungking Express BD from amazon is also at their place so they're bringing that up to.

I was about to do Hausu but it just got too late and I could only finish Rosemary's Baby.

One of the most chilling films ever... I'm on the edge of my seat the whole time, creeping myself out when they finally tell Rosemary her baby's due date.....

June 28th.

My birthday!!! I just about shit myself!!

Either way, I get home, toss it in the player, and it plays flawlessly (I checked for cracks, found none, and it was in immaculate shape)

Gotta love people who don't understand that either A) BD will not play in their DVD player, or B) Firmware should be upgraded every couple millenium!
e
That's the same guy who'd return the disc because the picture's got black bars on the top and doesn't see a difference between hi-def and DVD.

I bet your ghetto is sadly safer than my ghetto. Halifax is only second to Winnipeg as far as crime rates and murder are concerned in Canada.

I'm not a Nolan fan, so I'm not grabbing Following, which is why I wasn't sure if the release date. I know Brazil and Purple Noon both come out on the same day, which were the two December titles I grabbed. Brazil is an upgrade for me. First time upgrading a Criterion film from a Criterion release, all my other Criterion upgrades have been from non-Criterion DVDs.

I don't mind waiting for my stuff, I still have stuff to catch up on, and I'm starting a new project on converting Nesmith the Netbook into a Hackintosh. I'm also not bothered by the lack of coupons like some people are. They're still cheaper than here in Canada. B&N only charges GST rather than HST as well.

Fun fact:

The apartment building in NYC where Rosemary's Baby was filmed, is the same building that John Lennon lived in and was shot in front of.

Talk about a cursed building...

Oh god yes it's cheaper in the states. I mean there are a few DVD rental places left in toronto. As far as I know only Sunrise, HMV, Bay Street Video and Sonicboom sell Criterion, but it's still way too much. I paid 39$ for The Gold Rush brand new. But a few weeks back I spent 160$ from this one guy on craigslist to get a "Like New" copy of The Third Man, and sealed copies of The Man Who Fell To Earth and Pierrot Le Fou. It's an expensive habit.

My first Criterion was actually the 3-disc Brazil set, so this would be an upgrade. I also want to upgrade my copies of Darjeeling, Modern Times, Great Dictator and Paths of Glory. I was stupid when I first got them because I wasn't that much into BD even though I have a BD player on my laptop. Just looking at how amazing the quality is...I kinda kick myself.....
