Well Done!
Thank you!

Right ... I know what you mean with the quality control/OCD comment.

The closest B&N to me is about a 45 minute drive away. And the next closest is another 20 minutes farther away from the first one. So it isn't always easy/convenient to get there anytime I like. I'm pretty sure I'll be there again before the sale is over ... probably more than once.

Thanks Joe! I'll check out Woman In the Dunes first.

Sorry if this has been discussed. I did my best to scan the thread. Does anyone know why "Man Who Knew Too Much" is only 12% off, while other pre-orders (and existing titles) are 50%? Oversight?

Thanks.

It's a January release, and the sale ends Nov. 16th.

The other Pre-orders they're allowing are during the sale, and even some Early-Dec. releases.

Since I finally got off the fence and ordered "Red Desert" from Amazon three days ago, I'll pretty much have to interpret this as "...perhaps a bit pretentious and obtuse at one level, but it's nevertheless an awesome cinematic masterpiece overall?"

B&N is a mess right now. I made an order, decided to cancel/make changes to the order (when the link was available to do so), but the website wasn't working right and wasn't able to cancel them, so I called them up to cancel and they said they would. Balance to be charged was changed to zero, then I get home tonight and see that it has shipped! Then I receive an email from customer service AFTERWARD saying that they'll cancel the order. What a mess.

Just going to place the same order again for the same items plus a few others, using a coupon, then just refuse/return to sender the original shipment.

I think Barnes 'N Noble is terrible when it comes to cancelling orders.

I purchased Anatomy Of A Murder as a test to see what happens when you cancel them, and I hit cancel 3x and I still got it in.

I never got a confirmation e-mail on the order I placed 10/31. The order also doesn't show up when I log into their web site. Talked with customer service and they told me to sit tight, they are having problems due to the hurricane. They say things should be more functional by early next week.

Very tempted by this sale, but after tax is figured in the Blu Rays are really only a few dollars cheaper than normal Amazon prices. I may just wait and throw these on my Amazon X Mas wish list and hope my family members take the hint and pick me up a few.

The only set that I am actually very interested in potentially buying because it seems so intriguing isn't even Blu Ray...it is the Eclipse Series 37: When Horror Came to Shochiku. Has anyone seen any of the movies in this set before? They seem like interesting Japanese cultural artifacts and a lot of fun as well.

Pitfall is the weakest of three fantastic films!
I feel like I've been beating a dead horse with the Teshigahara box-set, but it really is great. The B&N sale is perfect opportunity to take a risk on blind-buying something you're not too sure about.
There's now been a few of us around here singing the praises of this set. Buy with confidence!
A note on the quality: I watched these DVDs on a 50" plasma and had no trouble or regrets with the video only being standard definition.

It's always been like that. Their cancel functionality has never worked.

I've never seen any of these film either though I am a fan of Japanese cinema. I viddied a trailer for BODY SNATCHER on youtube and that was enough for me: must own! Now if only Criterion would release ULTRA Q on blu-ray with English subtitles!

I cannot recommend the Teshigahara box set enough. I've written essays on every film and though it's difficult to pick a personal favorite, I would give the slight edge to PITFALL. I would rate Teshigahara among the great visionary directors along with Oshima, Imamura, and Kurosawa. Hope this helps!

Aside from Kurosawa, Kaiju films and some of the crime stuff, I am pretty ignorant of Japanese cinema. I looked up Teshigahara and his films seem very intriguing. I am not going to bling buy since they are available as discs from NetFlix, which I am adding to my queue right now!

If NetFlix does not get the Shochiku films, I will definitely order the set. They just look too ridiculously fun to pass up for $30!

Actually takes place after the war. My favorite film from the BRD trilogy. Very good movie.

My original order was lost by the B&N server, so I placed a new order tonight.

I got an email tonight that B&N had shipped it by DHL

That's exactly what happened to me, as i said earlier in the thread. (difference is that i made 6 different orders, and none of them showed up on their site).
Guess i'll wait a few days to see if they appear, before ordering again.

My original order was made on the same day Oct 31st.

That order was lost. I would suggest you just place a new order.

Antonioni at his very best, a top-tier film in his career. The film definitely isn't easy but it is so rewarding in a way few films are. Also, like someone mentioned before, you have to stand in awe at Antonioni's dedication to the project. In one of the many extras (And this release is packed with them) Antonioni mentions how he wanted to paint an entire section of a small forest close to the place they were filming to take some shots. Paint a freakin' forest! The use of color is very subtle but one of the high points of the film, the more you think about how he uses them, the more you see the brilliance .

WOW, didn't expect that score. Granted I haven't seen the movie yet, but now I'm more interested to see it and form my own opinion!
