I just spoke to the guy from my local Barnes Music & Movie dept and he confirmed the sale is going to go thru the 26th. So I went ahead and had them reserve my copy of Heaven's Gate for the 20th.

I'm pretty disappointed with my first ever order directly from Criterion's website. I ordered it on September 24th when they had their 50% sale on their site. After waiting for a month and a half I got it yesterday and was charged a $25 postage fee (which I haven't been charged on orders like this in years), and one of the replacement cases I ordered (Last Year At Marienbad) is shattered right by the top clip so not only is it cracked badly but it doesn't even close properly... Think I'll be sticking to ordering from Barnes and Noble from now on.

What are the chances I can get a replacement replacement case from them with no hassle?

I just ordered a replacement case for the 400 blows and sent them $5 through paypal (i wanted them to ship it overseas).

Now I get this message that it was supposed to be $10 for the case and the cover wrap? Now I'm nervous they'll send me the freakin' digipack - which is what I'm replacing in the first place. :/

Edit: crisis averted. :P

I am very intrigued by this double release, haven't seen either. Any chance we'll get a review here on the site soon?

I dont have high expectations for tomorrow, but Id love to see Theif of Bagdad get a Blu Ray treatment...and since the Blob has been rumored to death, let's do it...
Does anyone know if Great Expectations (speaking of expectations) might be given the HD treatment ?

It could be possible. Sony has video rights, but only through an agreement with Nicholson, I believe. Considering the BBS Story release is basically a Sony/Nicholson set, it wouldn't surprise me.

I fully expect the early David Lean spine #'s (Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Summertime) to get upgrades at some point as they are "staples" to the collection.

Do you think they will be released in a box set or separate releases?

Who knows...

But I prefer boxed sets, myself. Usually if you want one film from a set, you'll want all of them...and it's much cheaper buying them as sets as it would be individually.

I could see the Dickens adaptations being boxed together, but it would make more sense for Summertime to be boxed with Hobson's Choice and the other of his later British films.

I don't know if the international shipping angle will complicate things but they're usually really, really good about making stuff like that right.

My only real hope for tomorrow is Life of Oharu and any of the World Cinema Foundation titles. I hope Criterion does a twofer with a Sansho the Baliff upgrade and Life of Oharu as the new title. Can't believe they haven't released a single Mizo on BD, unacceptable !

I have the ITV edition of Great Expectations and it's pretty good. I would expect Criterion to use the same master with their usual tweaks.

P.S.- don't think for a second when they release Limite, they are off the hook on my requests for more South American filmmakers . Not having Rocha represent Brazil in your dvd company is like not having Bergman for Sweden.
