I enjoyed Zazie, and found it highly amusing, and was quite impressed that Malle was able to adapt it.

I did the same thing today ... with the same situation/reasoning as yours.

Why I bought it at this time:
[Show spoiler]The B&N in-store 30% off coupon (that expires tomorrow) was burning a hole in my pocket knowing that I could add it on top of the 50% off sale. I didn't have a clear-cut favorite film to use it on so, going against my nature, I went for one of the more expensive bluray sets, thinking I would get more value out of the coupon that way. Plus, by the time the next 50% off B&N sale rolls around (in July), I may not be a B&N member anymore. I'll probably renew because there are so many more Criterion films I want to see, but you never know.

I have one or two Criterions with the annoying plastic stripe on the spine that sticks when you remove the wrap. Anybody have good tips for safely removing it?

Here's a list of Best Deals filtered for Criterion. Seems like they are still adding titles ...

Yeah, if you go to the front page and click on the red "Deals" button, near the top, then sort by "studio" and choose Criterion, you'll see them all. $17.99 for Rosemary's Baby ... $20.99 for Seven Samurai ...

edit: They just added a couple more titles ... over 30 on sale at this point

Since Amazon charges me tax now I'd rather order from Best Buy for reward points.

With Brazil, I own all but

Antichrist
The Ballad of Narayama
Chronicle of a Summer
Fat Girl
Following
Ivan's Childhood
The Kid With a Bike
The Man Who Knew too Much
On the Waterfront
Pina
Purple Noon
The Qatsi Trilogy
Sansho the Baliff
The Tin Drum
Tiny Furniture
Two-Lane Blacktop
The War Room

Might as well cave in and get the couple I don't like out of the bunch (Tiny Furniture & Antichrist)

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"

I promised myself that I wasn't going to buy any more Blu Rays for quite some time, but I can't miss out on some of these titles for $17.99! Does anyone know how long this Amazon sale is going to last? I don't want to pull the trigger until Brazil drops to $20.99.

It's like you're reading my mind. I've never owned Brazil but love it, so I'm ready to pull the trigger. Other temptations are mostly upgrades: after a few weeks of big spending:

Charade (VERY tempting. I have the non-anamorphic DVD and the Truth About Charlie DVD anamorphic version.)
Rashomon (at $17.99 I can't resist the upgrade but its $20.99 thankfully!)
Anatomy of a Murder (VERY VERY tempting. I've got the original DVD.)
Rushmore (I lent my DVD, never got it back and eventually re-bought it. A third purchase isn't in the cards yet.)
Royal Tenenbaums (tempted to upgrade, but watching the film raises a lot of personal ghosts.)
Seven Samurai (VERY tempting, but I had/sold the original for the DVD upgrade. Great as it is, for me the DVD is probably enough.)
Purple Noon
Rosemary's Baby (it'd be a blind buy, something I'm avoiding right now.)

When you get down to it (and without getting too personal) I have no real world film buff fans to share in this indulgence, so it feels like an isolating hobby at a time when I really don't need that.

Couldn't seem to figure that out. But $8.00 for shipping for one title? Pass. Found it cheaper somewhere else.

I hear you. This is a lonely hobby when you're surrounded by philistines. I literally know people who will say things like,"well that movie looks interesting but it's a Criterion so it must be boring."
