Looks like Amazon's is listed for a week, at least they are under specials. Course, they may all disappear at any point.

This site's deals are not reporting it but Bottle Rocket is also 20 99.

Thanks. I was wondering how long it would take for more retailers to have them...I'll just wait until Criterion does their own sale.

...plus Fahrenheit 451 has a doozy of a backstory, some of which was addressed via Universal's DVD features. Apparently, this film was a rather tough slog for Truffaut, and he wasn't particularly thrilled by the results, especially in light of its hoo-hah critical reception and resounding thud at the boxoffice. And yet, I think this film stood up very well...much better than most of Bradbury's filmed works. I just watched it again several months ago, and was again reminded how hauntingly beautiful it is...a one-of-a-kind 'fleur mal' very much deserving of restoration and reappreciation.

So yes, I would also be thrilled to see this one given the Criterion treatment on Blu-ray Alex. Just a bit of a drag that CC doesn't do isolated scores (or do they?...have they?), because this film features one of Bernard Herrmann's very best, and warrants such a showcase.

I just watched Close Encounters last night and this morning watched the documentaries. Several participants noted how Truffaut was more responsive to the execution of small sets than the giant, more elaborate ones. It got me wondering whether he might have approached 451 differently a few years later, after his experience on Spielberg's more machine-like production. I imagine it would still be modest, but his eyes may have been opened to some grander visual techniques.

Well, time to pull my dusty DVD of 451 off the shelf for a re-watch. Slaughterhouse 5, while I'm at it. And the Solarises.

Didn't their Notorious and perhaps other early Hitchcock DVDs have isolated music and effects tracks?

So watched Heaven's Gate....

Enjoyed it, somewhat. Great transfer though.

I found this very "interesting" doc on Youtube. I advise to NOT watch, if you want a clean slate opinion of Heaven's Gate, Pro-B suggests, I wasn't a huge fan of the film even though the transfer was awesome.

I voted as Best: Sunday, Bloody Sunday ... just great layout whole cover book disc etc. Worst was hard to choose, while I think THE GAME could have had better artwork it isn't the worst - I choose Being John Malkovich since I felt this movie deserved better art.

Also I didn't want to choose any artwork that was previously used on former DVD releases.

I thought about omitting those but then there could be a debate about what was original, etc. I just left 'em all in.

Essential Criterion blu-ray IMO.
Yeah I cracked. At least it replaces the Sherlock set that didn't have the advertised sale yesterday. Now to see what else I purchase.

So, for Blu-Rays that would have normally cost $1,510.00
Plus 7% New Jersey State Sales Tax $105.70
for a Grand Total of $1,615.70

Instead, cost me a Grand Total of $598.70

On top of that, the last $225 worth of purchases were made with Barnes and Noble gift cards, so I already have $30 saved up for the July sale!

There have been many covers I liked, especially Rashomon, Summer With Monika, Belle de Jour, the David Lean set covers, Godzilla, World on a Wire, Eating Raoul and Le Havre. But there is something about the two Carne covers that grabs me. Even on the shelf, their spines are noticeable (in a good way). Tough to pick between them, but I went with Les Visiteurs du Soir.

EDIT: on second thought, who am I kidding. I'm going with Belle de Jour

I chose, as best: Belle De Jour, Weekend (2011) and World on a Wire. If a 4th and 5th were allowed, I'd have chosen Lonesome and Certified Copy...because those covers represent their films really well.

For worst, I went with Tiny Furniture-- I don't get how it says anything about the film (though then I don't think the film has anything to say---yeah yeah, sounds kinda biased...but I really do dislike that cover).

Now to that point I would argue the cover has a lot to say about the film. A low res extreme close up of her face is just her character, someone candid and unapologetic about herself and who she is. And thats just the portrait that is painted in the film. A character who is not trying to make excuses for herself or who is embarrassed for who she is, its less a glamor shot and more a self portrait.

A character that doesn't take any personal responsibility.
