A character who is not trying to make excuses for herself or who is embarrassed for who she is, its less a glamor shot and more a self portrait.

Yes. I see the point being made, and it's a very good point that does add intention there...but yeah...I'm sorry, I just can't stand anything about it.

I'm talking about the cover art and why it makes sense to me. You are making a commentary on the film itself.

Best:
In The Mood For Love
Heaven's Gate
Rashomon

Worst:
Certified Copy

I have to say, there are far more good covers and great covers than bad covers. I ended up with a shortlist of at least ten that I thought were outstanding.
Definitely not a lot of love for Being John Malkovich. Did anyone actually like it?
And of course, special thanks to ShellOilJunior for putting together these fun diversions

Hmmm, best and worst covers is kind of tough this year because nothing has been really, really good or really, really bad. So far I've narrowed it down to...

Best
The Qatsi Trilogy
Shallow Grave
Last Days of Disco
A Night to Remember
Rosemary's Baby (it shouldn't be penalized for not reinventing the wheel)
Anatomy of a Murder (see above and add Saul Bass)

Worst
Eating Raul (the yellow just bugs me)
Lonesome
The Last Temptation of Christ

While Certified Copy looks technically terrible, it's actually based on the book design in the movie.

Gut reaction on a visual basis alone was pretty ambivelant but I thought it was clever and well executed.

In that sense it kind of reminds me of my first reactions to Kiss Me, Deadly. I liked the direction they took so even though it didn't totally work for me they got style points for trying.

Worst covers;

Breathless,
The Last Metro,
Ride With the Devil,
&
Last Year at Marienbad.

I really like the Malkovich cover. It sums up the movie quite nicely.

Certified Copy's cover doesn't bother me -- although there are quite a few better ones from this year.

I haven't decided on mine yet.

I really don't like it and I'm not a fan of Artificial Eye's cover for that title, which may be the polar opposite.

The plastic case cover maybe, but if everyone wouldn't cry over cardboard, the digipak is one of their best. For this year, I'm going Trilogy of Life for my favorite.

Very difficult to choose 3 Bests and especially a Worst out of such a diverse group of covers ... but I guess that's part of the fun. Plus, if I looked at my list in 5 minutes from now, the results might be different. That being said ...

My 3 Best (in no particular order): (... okay, so I have 4 listed ... I'll have to whittle away one of the 4 before I officially submit Shell's final form).

Anatomy of a Murder
Belle de jour
Godzilla
Harold and Maude
Le Havre
Rashomon
Rosemary's Baby
[Show spoiler](I didn't go with either Anatomy of a Murder or Rosemary's Baby as a finalist because I believe they're copies of posters(???) ... plus ... I'm using that as an excuse to make it easier to narrow the list down. )

My Worst:

Certified Copy
In The Mood For Love

I believe Le Havre is also based on a poster.
