Conrad was method acting.

Did anybody get Godard's WEEKEND during the last B&N sale?

Review here gives it a full 5 mark both on video and audio, but looking at the screencaps from caps-a-holic it's pretty clear something went wrong with the highlights recovery:

I stand corrected. Apparently Eating Raoul and Vivre sa Vie came today. A Bonanza DVD set came last week. Just waiting on Breathless and the larger parcel of Black Orpheus, In the Mood for Love and Rosemary's Baby. However, my mother tells me her mail in Central NS is screwy right now because some punk ass kids tipped over the mailboxes and they have to go to the post office while they wait for a Crane from Halifax to pick the boxes back up or something.

Decided to pick up the Criterion Collection edition of Traffic (one of my all time favorites). I'm sure it will be well worth it despite the fact that I own 2 other releases of the film.

I would love to see Criterion issue Solaris (yeah that version) and include a lot of the footage that was cut / or alternates. I honestly like the film on its own. I love the original version more so, but the remake isn't a bad film IMO.

I thought the remake was good, but I think I made the mistake of watching them back to back, and after absolutely loving the original, the remake paled by comparison. I think that if I had spread them out more I probably would have liked the remake more. I too would love to see the cut footage, however.

Default Godard's Weekend

For some reason the Weekend Criterion from B&N shipped quickly for me. I got it a day or two after its release date. I am still waiting on Heaven's Gate though. It should be here today but it is definitely late being that I ordered it well before release. It was a blind buy for me but it was too tempting with the B&N sale.

BTW, my first post on this forum. Don't obliterate me quite yet, just getting my feet wet. I have about 60 or so Criterion Blus and looking forward to posting here.

you'll be fine. Sometimes things get heated but just ignore people and don't take things personally. It's a problem On all sections of thus forum were people assume the worst.

Not quite my neck of the woods since It's about 70km away however the Boxes are just outside a woodland park. It's safer to ship to my mother than it is to me, as the post office is In a sketchy area, and my apt box is too tiny.

While talking Soderbergh on Criterion, I'd also like an extended of both Solaris and the Limey, even if they're just bonuses on theatrical editions,

I'm all in.

Just saw Decameron. Some very dated notions on sex, politics and religion but nonetheless compelling through Pasolini's eyes. It's pretty interesting how he plays with persepective, often shooting erotic scenes from a female perspective.

Anyways, I can only check out one more from the box today, is it fine to skip ahead to Arabian Nights and see Tales later. Is this the recommended route?

Does anyone feel like commenting on Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter? I have no experience with Suzuki but have been on an Asian film kick recently purchasing In the Mood for Love as well as Chungking Express.

If you're okay with narratives that barely make any sense in service of ADHD art, you're in for a real treat. Personally I love Branded to kill a bit more than Tokyo Drifter (although Drifter has one of the great gonzo art shootouts that make it worth every penny on Blu Ray)

Agreed. Both are fun but I prefer Branded to Kill because of its crazy setups eg:
[Show spoiler]killing someone by shooting a bullet through pipes
and b/w cinematography.

I watched them in theatrical release order, and I know I'm not the best critic when it comes to this directors work but I honestly didn't enjoy the Trilogy of Life much at all. Salo I thought was 200 times better.

The first film I'd ever seen of his was Teorema and I enjoyed that film a lot. I wish it would get a decent BLU release.

I have such mixed feelings about The Game. I love David Fincher as a director and I absolutely love the concept of The Game yet I still feel it is his weakest film. I just think it could have been executed better. I find areas of it to be a little too far fetched and implausible. Also not a fan of the hollywood ending. It has been a while since I have seen it though I should rewatch it and see if I like it anymore than I did the last time.
