I expect to see Tokyo Story sometime next year. If you're not region challenged...then Masters of Cinema JUST released Floating Weeds and BFI has released a LARGE number of Ozus on both blu-ray and DVD. They have a set of his early Gangster films coming out next March.

Assuming you're in the States, click here and then click on the buy now button. B&N's 40% off sale will be starting soon.

I live in Australia, as indicated below my avatar I recently purchased 2 Criterion titles from B&N whilst they were 50% off, probably should've ordered more since p&h is kinda expensive :/

Thanks for that.

Everyone here doesn't study what Criterion does.

It's still a good cover.

This. I've seen parts of The Game on TV, but the plot seemed far-fetched to me. Because of this, I was never interested enough to keep watching.

Started watching "The X From Outer Space" last night. I've got to say right off the bat the video quality is great and the mono track (granted I am pumping it out through all 5 of my speakers at once) sounds nice and clean (Jap audio track).

Quick question for anyone who may know. It seems that when they filmed this movie, the American actors voices were dubbed in Japanese. For example when Lisa (the hot blonde scientist) speaks, you can clearly see her lips do not match the Japanese language. Same for some of the other American or non Japanese actors. Is this correct or am I imagining things?

The movie its self is quite fun if you are into the whole monster movie thing. The miniature sets were very well done.

There's also nothing similar between these films and the films of Seijun Suzuki.
Suzuki was a Japanese director working in the 60s, whereas Wong Kar-Wai is a director from Hong Kong making films from the late 80s to now.
As someone else has said, Branded to Kill and Tokyo Drifter are kind of nuts. I'm a big fan of both (see my avatar), but these films really aren't for everyone. Some love their crazy, 60s pop sensibility and others hate their sloppy and confusing (or nonsense) narratives. Suzuki was actually fired from Nikkatsu Studios because of Branded to Kill.
I'd recommend trying before buying.
Wasn't necessarily comparing the two. Just saying I was on a sort of "Asian film kick". To be honest I'm even more interested in the two after the insight you provided so it is much appreciated.

Fallen Angels is by far my favorite of the Wong Kar Wai films. Highly Recommended if you like his other movies.

Default Wes Anderson films

So I've noticed that I change my viewpoint on every Wes Anderson film I see based on multiple viewings. If I like it the first time I hate it the second time and vice versa.

Loved to Hated: Rushmore, Life Aquatic, Darjeeling Limited
Hated to Loved: Bottle Rocket, Royal Tenenbaums

I haven't seen Moonrise yet, and I am afraid to rewatch Mr. Fox as I really liked it on first viewing. I wonder if this phenomena has anything to do with the mood of the viewer theory discussed a few pages back...

That's pretty accurate!
You've missed a couple of vital topics though:
  • Christopher Nolan
  • The Monkees
  • Michael Bay
  • Will the original Star Wars trilogy be released by Criterion?
  • "According to me, the films Criterion should be releasing are..."
  • And you didn't mention "TinyFurnitureblablahblah" enough times.

In that case, have a look at some of the Asian Eclipse sets, such as the Nikkatsu Noir collection, The Warped World Of Koreyoshi Kurahara collection, or the Criterion DVD box set of Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara.

True fact: Other users have bogus locations.

If you're buying from US Amazon, the directions still apply. Only reason they don't is if you're buying from amazon.uk, etc.

edit. strike the last sentence. If you're buying from UK amazon, etc. the blu-ray.com buy now links work. Still Walking has a buy link that takes you to the Amazon page.

Medium Cool is a good film. My 1 viewing didn't make it a favorite, but it's a very important film and a document of a time in US history. Robert Forster, Haskell Wexler
