Does anyone know when if Criterion Collection plans to release Missing (1982) and Z (1969) on Blu-ray?

Recently purchased one BFI title at a good price and it was a bonus when I opened the package to see the a dvd included.

Following Blu-ray REVIEW

This film looks simply astonishing on Blu-ray

(Which should not be surprising considering how big Mr. Nolan is in Hollywood these days).

4k for 16mm...? Uh, guess it's good to be Chris Nolan. Sheesh...

I own all current releases except:
Tiny Furniture
Antichrist
Life During Wartime
War Room (I will eventually)

I dont even wanna try to answer question #2 in any other way but SEE THEM FOR YOURSELF, THEY'RE ALL WORTH WATCHING.

You have to steer clear of Dark Knight threads but that's a trade I'd probably make.

I feel like an utter fool having not researched this film quite enough (as I assumed).

In any case, Tarantino sure loves Wong Kar-Wai, as can be seen in this video clip, as he talks about Chungking Express:

I know the discussion about the value comes up again and again.. I do believe the price won't go up too high in the next month or anything, but I do believe it will become rather valuable a year from now. It's such an important film that there's no way it won't be as desirable as the other OOP titles.
Yes. I also have a feeling that by this time next year, Chungking Express will be selling for at least $50-60 or more, assuming the dollar bill is still worth anything.

I most certainly do! I really like the first two movies (own 'em both), but haven't seen the third yet, so...

I do. All the blus. All the Essential Art Houses not in the mainline. All the Eclipses and a substantial amount of the DVDs.

I have not seen them all, but I am working on it.

No kidding bgart13! If 2k was more than merely adequate for a 35mm film like A Night to Remember, then it certainly would have captured all that the 16mm Following had to offer. Just look at the superb ARRISCAN 2k results for the 16mm World on a Wire...nothing sacrificed there either.

As you suggest, Nolan probably got 4k for Following simply because he is Nolan, whether his original film element warranted it or not. What's next...8k for 8mm?

That clip is his intro from the Rolling Thunder Pictures tape & DVD of Chungking Express. I remember seeing it the first time I saw the movie way back in the late 90s.

Well, it was meant to be 1.85:1, that's the intended ratio and the ratio it was framed for. I agree the open matte can look nice on some of the visats, but it also throws off the compositions of other shots.

I'm pretty sure Quentin loves Jane Campion, too. He went as far as writing her a letter telling her how much he enjoyed BRIGHT STAR.

Once upon a time, I thought that Quentin Tarantino did "Chungking Express," because this is the DVD I borrowed from the library. It does say, "Quentin Tarantino's ..." That DVD has his introduction to the movie.

Edit: So I went to the link, above, and see that they say it is an intro to Rolling Thunder's DVD, so that is likely what I saw on the DVD. Haha, Rolling Thunder may have known about it before Criterion did.

Add: Rolling Thunder's wikipedia entry. So the correct way to read the DVD's cover is "Quentin Tarantino's rolling thunder pictures presents ... ." I am now sure that Criterion had nothing to do with the discovery of "Chungking Express."

2) Mystery Train - Great Ride to Memphis via Blu Ray
3) Night on Earth - Roberto Benigni is damn hilarious! Awaiting Blu Ray after watching it on Hulu plus.

I like both Broken Flowers and Ghost Dog, but I find Jarmusch to be kind of hit or miss. It was a long time since I saw Mystery Train but I found it to be a bore then. Obviously a part of Jarmuschs style is to have a lot of scenes where very little is happening, to the point that it almost bores the audience. Sometimes though, it feels to arty. And even the Jarmusch films I like have some cringeworthy moments - like in Broken Flowers
[Show spoiler]when Bill Murray sits around watching Don Juan on tv and his neighbour refers to him as a Don Juan several times directly after that. That's so heavyhanded - we get it, he's an aging Don Juan! Not really a spoiler, just thought I'd play it safe since I'm new on the forum...

The Artificial Eye blu-ray release of Chungking Express has a Quentin Tarantino introduction. Obviously it's inferior on the whole to the Criterion release but it's the one I bought prior to owning a region free blu-ray player.

Seeing that Criterion released Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate, here's hopnig they get the rights to The Sicilian, the 1.33 DVD from Artisan is not that great, as its a 2.35 film

critics didnt like the film, I rather enjoyed it myself, of course not the greatest mob film by a longshot...

That is anyone's guess we just have to wait until the 15th of each month crossing fingers for upgrades. I really want Z on blu, it has become one of my favorite Criterion releases and in this age of HD it makes it harder to watch it in standard def.
