Its $35.96 at Criterion http://www.criterion.com/films/27899-on-the-waterfront

That's less than Amazon's price of $41.99

What are your favorites and what are your least favorites?
Watching them all is definitely harder than owning them all (at least for me, i suppose this is different if you have a lot of spare time, but not very much disposable income).

Favorites off the top of my head would be In The Mood For Love, Double Life of Veronique, Three Colors, Harakiri, Secret Sunshine, La Jetee, Rushmore, Seventh Seal, Pale Flower, Thin Red Line, Seven Samurai, and The Battle of Algiers.

Least Favorite? Maybe War Room?

I'm just kidding...the scarcity of that plastic case and the fact that same beat up copies of Marienbad and Metro have been sitting on shelves for years is a bit of a running joke.

Pro-B
Very much agreed. When I saw the film it was not too long after reading the book that inspired it - 1984. I strongly prefer Orwell's text to Gilliam's film. Mainly because the book is so much more grim and terrifying.

In any case, Tarantino sure loves Wong Kar-Wai, as can be seen in this video clip, as he talks about Chungking Express: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX8aUixCpek
Hey, thanks for finding and posting that.
Really good.
Chungking Express is definitely one of my favourite Wong Kar-Wai films.

Is there any hope of getting Rebecca, Spellbound and Notorious next year?? Brazil got released by the CC, even though there was another BD a year ago. I'm going to hold off on buying these just in case.

Criterion no longer has the rights to those three.

Not likely. Criterion was able to release them through a license with Disney which owned the ABC Films library at the time. The Criterion DVDs went out of print 9 years ago in 2003 when the rights were sold. It turned out they'd been acquired by MGM. I was hoping Criterion would get another crack at them on Blu-ray, but MGM/Fox released them instead. While MGM and Criterion have a decent relationship, I don't believe there are any titles that MGM has released on BD that have been reissued by Criterion. The MGM BDs are pretty solid with a great roster of extras. I imagine the only benefit of a Criterion release would be the packaging and a different set of extras.

I wonder why Criterion has stopped doing the Three Reasons videos. Since Rosemary’s Baby, they haven’t post new ones. I was hoping they’ll do videos for Rashomon, Weekend, Heaven’s Gate and Trilogy of Life but they didn’t. Hopefully they’ll do for Brazil and Following.

I have the MGM blu-rays of Rebecca and Notorious (and Manhattan) and I'm very happy with the job they've done. There's a few decent extras on the Hitchcock films and the video/audio packages are good.
The only complaint I have (other than the uninspired cover art) is that the discs don't load to a menu page. They start playing automatically. Even when the films finish they immediately start playing again. Very strange.

One reason to quit the "Three Reasons" videos is that people can think of reasons (possibly more than three) why they shouldn't buy.

There's about 3-4 films that will contend for best it looks like.

Worst may be a 2 horse race.

I won't mention any names so as to not influence voting.
