Pleeeeeeeeease tell me you aren't still digesting Thanksgiving dinner!

I love Gilliam's 12 Monkees (sic.) and Fisher King (well, I loved FK when it came out and for whatever reasons haven't seen it since). Not a fan of Fear and Loathing, but even that has plenty to offer. Not sure why Brazil has grown on me slowly, but it has (50/50 I first saw the mangled cut). You're definitely right to start with the director's cut.

I need to check out World on a Wire on DVD from my library. I've been tempted to blind buy based on what I've read here, but for some reason I can't pull the trigger.

(O/T I still haven't re watched Fireflies! I have some snobby writer friends coming by next week and we're going to watch Tree of Life; depending on how rthey respond I may push for Fireflies next month.)

Have you dropped any acid? Everything in that movie becomes clearer on acid.

I'm told.

IIR it took a couple weeks. And you get a $10 certificate for use on criterion.com.

Probably! Compared with my life, Eleanor Rigby's was a gay, mad world.

They're there. Try hitting the subtitle button on your remote.

The two times (Carlos,White) I've sent discs to them have gone out to them on Saturday. In each case I received the replacement on Thurs or Fri.

Criterion has always shipped stuff to me very very quickly.

Since MGM and Criterion tend to cooperate these days, I wonder if we could see the Bergman films that MGM put out on DVD as a set be released by Criterion as a set a la America Lost and Found.

The films were Persona, Shame, Hour of The Wolf, The Passion of Anna, and The Serpent's Egg. Anyone know if MGM still owns the rights or would be willing to let Criterion release these?

Default Criterion Sale

I am not sure if this only applies to my local Barnes & Noble (though I doubt it), but I was told the other day that all blu-rays--including the Criterions will be 40% off the week before Christmas. Throw in a B&N card, and we have a half off sale Between Amazon's Criterion sale, and the upcoming B&N sale...I will be handing out coal for Christmas.

Your guess is as good as mine, but Bergman is my favorite director, so I'd love to see it happen. Personally, I'd rather see a re-release of the faith trilogy (Through A Glass Darkly, Winter Light, The Silence) and Autumn Sonata first, especially since the latter never had an anamorphic transfer. And that's not even mentioning Cries & Whispers or Wild Strawberries.

If there are single releases for things like El Mariachi / Desperado, I could replace my double feature with the singles to get a correct count there -- I mean add the entries for the singles, delete the entry for the double, then add a comment to the singles to explain it; I don't mean to go out and buy two singles to replace the double.
Or you could step away from the keyboard, look out the window, and realize with a shock of re-discovery that there is indeed a real world out there...

Part of living in the real world is wanting a realistic movie count. You should not have brought the matter up.

Stagecoach arrived. Here are the "Blu-ray Special Edition Features," from the back cover, in Criterion's order:
1. New, restored high-definition digital transfer, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack
2. Audio commentary by western authority Jim Kitses (Horizons West)
3. Bucking Broadway, a 1917 silent feature by John Ford, with new music composed and performed by Donald Sosin
There are more features. Some may find the "Screen Director's Playhouse 1949 radio dramatization of Stagecoach, with John Wayne, Claire Trevor, and [John] Ford" interesting.

Just so that there is no doubt in anyone's mind, Stagecoach is counted as one movie in my collection, as I believe it should be, because of a setting I was able to change in "Settings: Site preferences."

Just finished the Purple Noon CC blu-ray. Incredible film, I was riveted to my chair for the duration of this calculating thriller. The B-R.com review does not mention it but Purple Noon was given a new 2K digital transfer for this release according to the booklet inside the case.

This is why I blind buy Criterion releases.

Edit: BR.com review does include transfer information for this release.

Just finished Three Outlaw Samurai, which I purchased thanks to recommendations here. I loved it! I am now a new fan of Hideo Gosha. I'm sure I've probably watched one or two of his movies in the past, but can't remember. Those of you who have, which movies of his would you recommend I check out? Thanks.......
