My 2013 Criterion wishlist for upgrades to Blu-ray?

<-------------------------, for starters.

Other than that, I would like to see Blu-rays of...

Touchez Pas Au Grisbi
Le Trou
Bob Le Flambeur
Classe Tous Risques
Le Deuxième Souffle
Le Doulos
Rififi
Elevator To The Gallows
Pépé Le Moko

Just to demonstrate that I'm well aware that there are Criterion titles that do not feature French gangsters, I'll add The Vanishing and Insomnia to my wishlist.

Same can be named for Antonioni and Truffaut. I have a feeling it should be changing this year with these two, though. For some reason I'm not thinking *too* much with Fellini, though I hope I'm wrong.

I'd love them both, but what's the thought behind The Bride Wore Black and Gilda? The Warner's seal has been broken but is that a title Criterion would rush to get over some others? (And what kind of elements are out there for it?). Especially when Warner's has a Truffaut title - La Nuit Americaine/(Day for Night) - that would perhaps be more attractive to grab at first.

It would be a pleasant surprise for Criterion to release Gilda over Twilight Time, but I think the Sony (Columbia) title that Criterion would covet would be The Lady From Shanghai...that fits a little more into the Criterion wheelhouse.

But as long as we're dreaming, right, here are some educated pipe guesses:

-King Vidor's The Crowd -- Warner's announced The Big Parade, and this Vidor sister-silent was conspicuous by its absence. This would fit nicely with the Lonesome and People On Sunday releases from the previous two years.

-Francois Truffaut's The Soft Skin, Vivement Dimanche!, Jules et Jim, or the above-mentioned La Nuit Americaine -- we've got to have one or two Truffaut's coming. He's conspicuous by his blu absence

-...as is Michelangelo Antonioni. The romantic in me would like to think that there's a reason L'Avventura or L'Eclisse haven't been upgraded...a box-y reason...

- I agree that there will be a Lynch hint. It would be great if it wasn't Eraserhead as we all know that's coming, and a Mulholland Drive hint - with its promise of upgraded specs and new extras - would make me, well, excited.

I'd really like to see Criterion tackle some of these in 2013:

A Brighter Summer Day (Yang)
Out 1 (Rivette)
Limite (Peixoto)
Koker Trilogy (Kiarostami)
The Complete Yuri Norstein
Napoleon (Gance)
The Early Films of Philippe Garrel
Rapt (Kirsanoff)
The House of the Angel (Nilsson)
Hitler - A Film from Germany (Syberberg)
The Emigrants/The New Land (Troell)
A City of Sadness (Hou)
Apu Trilogy (Ray)
Spring in a Small Town (Mu)
La Femme de nulle part (Duluc)
Los Olvidados (Bunuel)
La maman et la putain (Eustache)

Or someone should at any rate

[Show spoiler]It's at least as deserving of attention as Rashomon (I'm tempted to add 'and arguably moreso' but I've only seen Rashomon once and that was several years ago so...)
It's not about what Rosemary's Baby is per sae...it's more about what it isn't in relation to Criterion's output last year. I just thought the label had several other more significant, ambitious, and better realized Blu-ray projects in 2012...the kind of thing no other label would tackle, much less deliver as definitively. Perhaps I just misunderstood what "Release of the Year" is supposed to mean...I always interpret that as...well...some kind of criterium. For art and technology.

In more colloquial terms, in a year of several out of the park home runs, Rosemary's Baby just seemed like a solid three-base hit with a walk.

Right now, my 2013 wishlist is pretty short. But it goes something like this:

George Washington (upgrade)
All The Real Girls
Hard Eight / Sydney
Les Amants du Pont-Neuf
Scanners
Oslo. August 31.
L'enfant d'en haut

A lot more newer stuff, but I would be ecstatic if any of these got the treatment.

Abbas Kiarostami also has a new film coming out that is being distributed through IFC. I could see that getting added to the collection, but I don't know if it would come in 2013.

I will swoon if these happen, particularly Cherbourg (with a hope for Lola, Bay Of Angels and Young Girls of Rochefort as well, but mostly Lola)!

And again I say...The Last Detail!!!

The Last Detail was one of the titles listed in the press release announcing the Sony/Mill Creek deal.

http://www.millcreekent.com/news/Son...lAnnouncement/

Now, Bonjour Tristesse was mistakenly listed (that went to Twilight Time) so nothing is carved in stone but it does make a Criterion release seem a bit less likely.

Yes, very much, but I'd rather have a Buñuel film that's not in the collection yet than an upgrade.

I REALLY would love to see Viridiana, my favorite Bunuel after Los Olvidados. It is listed as discontinued at Mike's Movie Mayhem (Along with Bergman's Wild Strawberries and Weir's The Last Wave), so I am hoping for a first half of 2013 release. I really wish I am right on this!
