I would agree---I think they are terrible blind-buys, they're way too divisive.

Only Anderson Criterion I'd suggest as a blind buy is Tenenbaums. Definitely not Life Aquatic or Darjeeling Limited, couldn't stand either of those.

Just purchases this title as well as In The Mood For love and fell hook line and sinker for it. I was hooked from the very first opening scene. Let's hope Chungking Express does the same as I've yet to view it.

Do it! But I suggest seeing and loving other Antonioni Prior especially L'Avventura, Red Desert and Blow Up.

Your list of choices is well-rounded. I would personally make 12 Angry Men the highest priority of those choices. That movie is astounding.

I received 12 Angry Men on Criterion DVD as a Christmas gift in 2011, but will strongly consider upgrading it to Blu-ray next time Barnes & Noble throws one of their 50% off shindigs.
No love for Bob Le Flambour? It easily ranks alongside those three essentials.

Twelve Angry Men, Videodrome, In the Mood for Love, Seventh Seal, Bottle Rocket, and Paths of Glory.

Which three should I choose now? Tough choice since they're all great films? Here's some info that may help you. I'm a big Kubrick fan (paticularly 2001, Dr. Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket). And I own 4 Criterion Blus: Chungking Express (liked it alot), Rosemary's Baby (masterpiece of psycholgical horror). Paris, Texas (haven't watched it yet) and 8 1/2 (haven't watched yet).

I'm looking for films I want to watch over and over. Thanks in advance.
12 Angry Men and Paths of Glory no question.

The third could be either Videodrome since it's a rather easy watch, or if you feel adventurous The Seventh Seal.

I had a hard time watching In the Mood for Love the first time round, haven't given it a second go. Bottle Rocket I did enjoy more the second time but I think there's better stuff out there.

I'm sorry I didn't chime in and give my opinion on which titles (and why) for you to purchase but upon first viewing of your post the 3 titles you finally purchased were my first picks so deep down I've got this sly silly little grin going on. You're going to love those films !!

After I posted my list I saw a handful of 'kick myself' titles in other lists - which of course always happens - but Bob le Flambour and Elevator to the Gallows two that really had me thinking 'wtf, how did I forget those'.

Easy autobuys.

Royal Tenebaums is the worst of the lot, it made me grind my teeth it was so "look at me, look at me, I'm so quirky!". Just tell a f-ing story, theres no need to dress all the characters in track suits and tennis headbands. It might work if there was anything even remotely funny about it.

The Bride Wore Black is currently touring in a new 35mm print. Gilda is Sony and they won't release it on their own. Criterion seems like a suitable dance partner.

I think Criterion might have picked up more FOX titles. Idle speculation but I wouldn't be surprised if Criterion released some of these in 2013:

Barton Fink - Fox didn't include this in their Coen box. The Coens have phantom pages on the Criterion website.

King of Comedy - Thelma Schoonmaker said a special edition was in the works back in the spring while promoting the dvd/blu of Hugo. She didn't specify if it was Criterion or something Fox were doing themselves.

Working Girl - Mike Nichols has a phantom page on the Criterion website. It seems that all the MGM titles got leaked years ago and none of his UA films were picked up by Criterion, so this seems like the most likely title. Somewhat forgotten in spite of being nominated for numerous Academy Awards.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls - Russ Meyer has phantom page on Criterion website. Criterion produced all the extras for the FOX dvd.

Phantom of the Paradise - Scream Factory apparently has or is working on licensing some Fox titles. They asked for this and were told no. Some fan made his own 3 Reasons video for this film, which Criterion then posted on their official Twitter.

All excellent choices and arguments for each!

I hear a precode film is on the way as well could it be freaks?
