I enjoy Rushmore, but I'm certainly not as taken by it as others. Bottle Rocket is the only Anderson I've yet to watch.

It's quite possibly Freaks, but I'd really love for it to be the original Scarface. It's so good, and so entertaining. I like it a lot more than Freaks, but either is a welcome inclusion.

The Howard Hawks version of Scarface is actually a Universal title:

http://www.amazon.com/Scarface-Unive...scarface+hawks

The Warner precode could be Freaks but I think it's more likely to be Ernst Lubitsch's The Merry Widow which has never been released on dvd or blu and Criterion has already released the rest of Lubitsch's operettas from this period in the Lubitsch musicals Eclipse set, so there is a major precedent right there.

If it was The Public Enemy, I would die happy. Easily the best of Warner's gangster pictures.

Children of Paradise was also high in demand for an upgrade, so it's pretty obvious it's not the worst upgrade, but rather people are voting for it being the worst transfer.
I'm not sure I'm not the only one to realise this.
I don't think Children of Paradise is the worst looking, definitely the most disappointing of what could have been; Island of Lost Souls transfer looks worse. My opinion of course

be nice

Its funny how people are split on Wes Anderson films.. I had never seen any of his films until recently but now I only need to see Life Aquatic (I hate something about that name and cover).. I loved Darjeeling and need to pick it up on BD sometime! Bottle Rocket and Tenenbaums were both good and I might get them.. Rushmore was just kind of there for me.. It was ok but I don't see myself owning it

Even if you weren't an Antonioni fan, or happened to not like this film, you'd definitely get your $12 back for it.

I'm going to chip in with the others in disagreement with this statement.

That's awesome news on The Bride Wore Black, and it would be tremendous if Criterion did release it.

I still think we'll get The Lady From Shanghai from Criterion before Gilda, though.

The Lubitsch would be great.

I agree, Gilda would be a great pickup but I think they'd put a higher priority on Shanghai and In a Lonely Place.

You also have to wonder what Sony is going to do with All the King's Men and From Here to Eternity.

For the life of me I can't figure out why GILDA doesn't enjoy the same classic status which is heaped upon other movies, like say, CASABLANCA?

Forgot about In A Lonely Place, which may be more probable than either.

While few get the 'classic heaping' that Casablanca does, Gilda being the signature role of one of the Classic Hollywood era's biggest and brightest stars is strongly assured of 'classic' status.

I'd add Le Doulos and Le Deuxičme Souffle to that list too.

I think the problem with Gilda is that the ending lets the film down, unlike Casablanca or In a Lonely Place.

Twelve Angry Men, Videodrome, In the Mood for Love, Seventh Seal, Bottle Rocket, and Paths of Glory.

Which three should I choose now? Tough choice since they're all great films? Here's some info that may help you. I'm a big Kubrick fan (paticularly 2001, Dr. Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket). And I own 4 Criterion Blus: Chungking Express (liked it alot), Rosemary's Baby (masterpiece of psycholgical horror). Paris, Texas (haven't watched it yet) and 8 1/2 (haven't watched yet).

I'm looking for films I want to watch over and over. Thanks in advance.
It sounds like Paths of Glory and In The Mood For Love should be the obvious choice for you. A couple of my favourites right there.
I've seen all of the others and like them. I'm a big fan of The Seventh Seal and I also have it in my collection.

Some good stuff in there, I would like to see some of the better contemporary directors who don't have any representation in Criterion (Lynch, Coens, P.T. Anderson) get their due in 2013. Eraserhead, Barton Fink or another Coens film, and either Punch-Drunk Love or Hard Eight would make me very happy.

Oh, I love Bob La Flambeur aplenty. It's a great film and a great Criterion DVD that I'll upgrade the split-second it comes to Blu-ray.

I just prefer Le Samouraļ, Army of Shadows, and Le Cercle Rouge.

I'd love to see Melville's Un Flic picked up by Criterion. Aside from a rather dated scene with a train and helicopter where obvious toy models were used, it's an awesome movie.
