I voted for wine btw
For what it's worth, I have a cellar with beer (and two additional fridges with temp. controllers to keep them at 55 deg. ) I travel to beer releases, trade for beer, occasionally purchase from online retailers although I trade more often than that, attend beer tastings, beer dinners, etc.

You can tell me that wine is a more affluent beverage, but I'll tell you that's just like, your opinion man....

Might as well join the rest of the wish list crowd.

All wild guesses and speculation naturally.

MGM/Fox:

Agreed with an earlier post about Barton Fink being likely. Coens ghost page on the criterion website, not part of the Fox box set, etc. One of the Coens' best films.

The King of Comedy and The Long Goodbye seem like really safe bets too.

Vincent and Theo

Wild at Heart

Salvador

Scanners

The Brood

Ghost World

La Cage Aux Folles

Fellini Satyricon

Roma

Raise the Red Lantern

She's Gotta Have It

Likely Upgrade: Naked Lunch

Paramount:
Nashville (Very likely, IMO. Unless it's part of the Warner/Paramount deal.)

Elephant Man (Fingers crossed!)

Don't Look Now

The Bride Wore Black

Seconds

The Conformist

Upgrade: Ace In the Hole

WB (if there truly is a deal with them):
The Haunting (Robert Wise) - The DVD looks atrocious. Can't remember if this was part of the Warner press release. If not, it's a shame that this landmark horror film doesn't have a proper BD release.

McCabe and Mrs. Miller - I have a feeling this one will be relegated to the archive, but I can dream of a Criterion blu!

Performance

Freaks

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me

The Year of Living Dangerously

The Sheltering Sky

Zabriskie Point

Blow-Up

Universal:
Lost Highway

Mulholland Dr

Fahrenheit 451

Talk Radio

Do the Right Thing (Upgrade)

The Man Who Wasn't There

Minnie and Moskowitz

Miramax (If this deal is still active):
Farewell My Concubine

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover - There's a ghost page for Peter Greenaway on Criterion's website.

Miscellaneous Upgrades:
Bicycle Thieves

The Picnic at Hanging Rock

Divorce Italian Style

Theatrical bookings for Harold Lloyd's films now go through Janus so it would be a good bet that Criterion is going to release some of his stuff

Everyone seems to be having fun with this, and maybe that's enough, but is there any indication that Criterion is even listening? I wonder ...

But just in case they are, I'll put in an extra plug for 2 that have come up a lot already: Don't Look Now and The Decalogue, and 3 that I don't think have been mentioned: Story of the Late Chrysanthemums (Mizoguchi), Gone to Earth (P&P) and Devi (Satyajit Ray). Did you get that?

I just want 2 films in 2013:

Glauber Rocha's Der Leone Have Sept Cabecas

and

Shuji Terayama's Pastoral

both of which has/will be shown at MoMA and I am hoping someone picked these up for home video release. It also wouldn't hurt if they hinted at releasing some WCF films in that New Year's newsletter.

I have created a thread on our social group where you can find all upcoming and reviewed Criterion Blu-ray releases, DVD only releases and Eclipse releases. Everything is sorted by release date. There are also links to a list of all Criterion titles available on Hulu Plus, Amazon Criterion Store, Barnes & Noble Criterion Store, and to Criterion's website and their social media sites. More features to be added. You can access The Criterion Corner from my signature. Hopefully some of you find this info helpful.

I watched Seven Samurai on Blu-ray for the first time last night. I am floored.

I used to own the initial Criterion transfer of this film (the one with the photo of the samurai on the cover), and I never expected to have a copy that looks this sharp. This Blu has some astonishing detail, as is apparent when looking at the thatched roofs of the farmhouses and the creekside flowers in the forest. The character close-ups look great as well.

I normally have to be in a specific mood to revisit one of the Kurosawa flicks, but Seven Samurai, along with Stray Dog and Yojimbo, is one that I watch more often than the rest.

This one was worth every penny of the $18 that I spent on it after using multiple Barnes & Noble coupons a couple weeks back.

I FINALLY watched Ugetsu (for the first time) on Hulu Plus last week and was also floored by it. I can see why it's been held in high regard. I'm in a quandary as whether to wait for it to be released by CC, or to jump the gun and buy the MoC version of it. I'll bet it looks great in 1080P.

If you have the region free option, I would go for it. It's really not clear when most of these wuld ever be release by Criterion, they seem to have other option these days

I am 28, love Criterion releases, and I have never had alcohol in my life.

It's all good. I'm 40 and I do not drink alcohol. Even when I was in college years ago, I only drank alcohol on rare occasion to avoid social awkwardness. I stopped drinking altogether a few years back, because I stopped caring about social awkwardness altogether. That sort of goes hand in hand with having a big movie collection that consists largely of off-the-beaten-path material, I suppose.

*Ahem* My beginning-stage collection of Blu-rays is hardly off-the-beaten-path, but my DVD collection that I spent years building gives a better idea of how my brain works.

I can relate right now--I don't drink (no real reason why) and always face that awkwardness...nice to see someone acknowledging that

..and this is where I rush to look at your DVD collection..

It's an interesting not-entirely-related thing I think about sometimes..to what extent our collections reveal what kind of people we are. I don't think mine really reflects me much at all. Anyone have opinions on the matter?

(random, I know)

Add me to the members of NAA (Non-Alcoholics Anonymous) frequenting this thread. I drank a little socially when studying in England because it made EVERYbody else uncomfortable. Like you, mainstream titles aside, the films I buy speak to my thinking better than random chatter in bars/pubs... or even threads, methinks.

Gotta love text-based asylums.
