Seems like this has been a rumor for the longest time, I wonder what the holdup is. They may be waiting for Gravity to release so they can capitalize on the attention on Curon.

Now I can at least follow the conversation, even if most of the clues are outside my experience.

They don't make American movies like this anymore. Kinski is classic beauty. A masterpiece. The supplements are a treat as well. I didn't watch them all, but the Wim Wenders interview was extremely entertaining. What particularly interested me was when Wenders talked about the initial reaction of American critics to the film of being very negative, mostly because (and this isn't a quote) "some foreigner isn't gonna show us Americans what America is like." I also found very interesting watching Stanton recount how badly at the time, and still to this day, wanted to kill Wenders after (spoiler alert) he found out that Travis' character was not gonna end up with the family. There's also a fairly thick book included in the case with a fine interview with the film's sceen writer Sam Shepard. Highly recommend ANY fan of great film to add it to your collection.
Just this past week, I also saw this for the first time ever. I liked it so much that I watched it again the very next night (... with my 90 year old mother who really liked it as well. ) I still need to watch the supplements and watch it again with the audio-commentary. What a gorgeous film!!! It kept my total interest too, as I never knew where it was going. I think this one will stick in my memory for a long long time. Great film!

I forgot where I saw this theory (maybe Criterion Forum), but it does indeed seem that Criterion are alternating silent/sound with the Chaplins releases:

Modern Times (silent)
The Great Dictator (sound)
The Gold Rush (both versions, but the original is silent)
Monsieur Verdoux (sound)
The Kid (silent)
???
Uh, that would be Limelight. (Or A King In New York.)
But hopefully that doesn't mean The Circus isn't until last, and that tightrope clown was for something else.

if the building is in fact a hint at Bringing Out the Dead (apartment complexes play a huge part in the film after all), 2013 will be my favorite year ever.

top 5 Scorsese. so overlooked and underrated. and it being a Paramount title, it seems within Criterion's reach. they just have to go out there and grab it.

I think it would make more sense to pair A Page of Madness and Jujiro together (which I hope MoC are going to do but who knows) as they are both silent, independent productions. Kinugasa made dozens of films, are any of his other colour features held in high esteem?

I haven't seen any of his other films, so I can't comment. But I do agree A Page of Madness and Jujiro would be the best release together. Wonder how Criterion's Gate of Hell will compare to MoC's release, hopefully they announce it soon, so there isn't that big of a gap between the 2 releases.

Criterion have the rights to all of the Chaplin First National films (that range in running times of 10-60 minutes), and The Kid really belongs in a box set with them rather than a stand alone release. With this hint I hope it means we'll be seeing a complete set instead!

I wonder if Criterion have bothered to licence A Countess from Hong Kong from Universal.

Judging from these Chaplin hints, we are never going to see City Lights. Saving the best for last I guess?

That would definitely facilitate a double-dip.

Hey...for those with access to NetFlix...there is a GREAT documentary by the BBC/BFI called "The Story of Film: An Odyssey" that was added recently. It's a (15) episode doc and is quite thorough. Worth a watch if you can. It's currently available on Amazon (DVD only- 5 DVDs) for $59.99

Their blu-rays are regular, replicated discs, not MOD. Which is nice, as blu-rs are not reliable at all.

Looks like it's gonna be an awsome year for Criterion fans! Scanners pretty much confirmed. Yes!

I think there's more going on with the building too. The bottom looks a lot like a diner to me. Maybe too obvious, but could Diner be joining the collection this year?

And the guy holding the bird cage, as has been mentioned, definitely looks like Barton Fink. Definitely a double or triple clue going on there.

What's with the eyeroll? They've said a pre-code title was in the works. It seemed like a pretty reasonable question.

I would be ecstatic to get Freaks which along with Bride Of Frankenstein is my favorite 30s horror film.
