Looks like I guessed right on one prediction: Lord of the Flies.

This would be a good thing. I should have known it with the shell.

A few years back, I went cheap and bought the Art House Essentials DVDs of The Lord of the Flies and Polanski's Knife in the Water. I wouldn't mind upgrading both in the future.

If others have agreed to this guess, then pleases ignore.
Etaix has been rumored for some time now, assumed to be an eclipse set. If they're still making those.

Finally got some time and watched my BD of Rosemary's Baby for the first time and WOW, what a wonderful, claustrophobic film. Is not a shout out loud horror film but one that maintains you in constant dredd and suspense throughout it. The petformances were awesome with Mia Farrow and Ruth Gordon being the best. I'm very glad I bought it and the picture and audio quality are top-notch so is one of the best packages that Criterion has produced so far.

Default Lonesome

So, who else blind-bought Lonesome and completely adores it?
I just finished watching it and I'm already thinking about when I can re-watch it with Mrs Drbikeshorts.
Such a lovely film. Somewhat reminiscent of Murnau's Sunrise.
The sequence at Coney Island, when the guy chases the girl through the crowd and the confetti (which is also the clip that Criterion use on their site) is incredibly beautiful.
It's actually a shame that Fejos had to include three dialogue sequences, because they're the only weak parts in the whole film.
Highly recommended if you're interested in silent films.

I didn't love but I liked it a lot. Definitely some amazing camerawork and imagery. But it was lacking that certain something that Sunrise has.

Honestly, the sound sequences really ruined it for me. The first one wasn't so bad but the others killed it. Plus, the film they used was a lot better. It was just beyond forced.

the leading man was great. A lot better than the woman in my eyes. But still, it was lacking a certain charm.

Agreed. Would much prefer a screencap-type-cover like Days of Heaven.

Roger Ebert tweeted his classic review again for Mike Leigh's Bleak Moments and has me wondering if Criterion would possibly release a collection of those earlier Mike Leigh films. Looks like Water Bearer Films released them on DVD around 2004ish.

Sounds about right. I hate that we have to wait so long for Chaplin's masterpiece too, but it gives Criterion time to do it right and justice. Not to say they have slacked off on Chaplin at all, just saying.

The Kid looks safe, wish I were more certain about The Circus. That clown does not seem to fit the Chaplin mold at all, if anything, looks like a clown designed by Lon Chaney. Besides, with Verdoux coming soon and The Kid potentially in the pipeline, is there room for a third Chaplin in one year? Be an odd ramp up for Criterion given the consistent one a year model so far.

I'm of two minds on Safety Last!. Thrilled that its coming, but disappointed it will be first. It's an odd move to be releasing the most famous Lloyd movie first and be sitting on City Lights. I'm also wary that later Lloyd releases will not sell as well as Safety Last! if it goes first. Honestly, I might have started with Girl Shy as the first Lloyd.

All of this is a fancy way of saying Criterion is going to make a mint off me with their next sale. I still lack Gold Rush, Dictator, Night to Remember and Harold and Maude, all of which I really want. Criterion, I love you, but I'm going broke here!

Perhaps they'll release a series of Lloyd boxsets? They could release Safety Last! in a sound features box set and also release the silent features and shorts together.

The Lloyd estate thought they had a deal with that earlier DVD boxset for Warner, and that seems to have long since fallen through for further releases.
Which puts Criterion nicely in their usual to-the-rescue position on Blu, especially for the Film 101 classic.
(Now, if they could only get The Freshman, Why Worry? and Never Weaken to go with it.)

Dread. D-R-E-A-D, meaning fear. That is the Law.

(Please let this not become another "Santa Clause" case of movie-title inspired urban-legend misspelling...)

Agreed with everything you said. I'm hoping they include A Dogs Life or A Woman of Paris with The kid. Since The kid is under an hour long I believe.

I think it ran as a (15) episode documentary...a mini-series if you will. I think this is the whole enchilada...it's available on Amazon as (5) DVDs.

It ran as one episode a week on a channel called More 4 here in the UK in late 2011. It's sister channel Film4 ran a weekly film to tie on with it. Cousins has a twitter account and recently said he was working on a sequel (whether or not he was being sarcastic, I don't know!)

Default Atlantic City

Surprised no one has mentioned this, but the woman in the window looks like she's rubbing something on her and the 'candy' could be the cocaine from the drug deal. Atlantic City would fit since it's a Paramount title as well as a Louis Malle film. There is a scene where Susan Sarandon rubs lemons on her chest. That's my strong bet on that window.

It looks like the woman in the window is eating an entire handful of candy and shoveling it down quickly. That would certainly fit Looking For Mr. Goodbar.

Looking For Mr. Goodbar is about a schoolteacher who, after a bad relationship, falls into a habit of frequenting bars looking for men, steadily becomes more promiscuous, and even starts to use drugs. If this is, indeed, the movie, then it will be another perfect "This will not end well." offering from Criterion, since Criterion excels at "This will not end well." flicks.

Woo hoo! Letter Never Sent Blu-ray is mine!

A co-worker brought in some Barnes & Noble cards for a couple of us who helped him move to a new house a few weeks back. I grabbed Letter Never Sent at the Barnes & Noble down the street during lunch break, and even had enough left over to upgrade another favorite of mine, Peter Weir's The Way Back.

The two movies actually go hand-in-hand quite well with the whole "man versus unforgiving wilderness" stories that I love so much. I may just make a double-feature out of them one night.

I returned home a few minutes ago to find that my Amazon UK region-free Universal Monsters Blu-ray set had arrived in perfect condition.

As Ice Cube says, "It was a good day."

Can I go without purchasing any more new Blu-rays until Ivan's Childhood comes out on January 22? Yes, I can. I've got a lot to keep me busy.
