However, Prometheus was the absolute worst experience for me. It was completely ruined by the many teenagers there who freaked out over everything and felt the need to talk over scenes about how great the previous scene was. The most amusing part was the end---during the final shot of the film, someone said "ohhh now it all makes sense"---which of course made me want to laugh over how completely ridiculous that comment was.

That is why I can't stand watching movies with my parents. Every new actor on screen is accompanied by 5 minutes of naming them and trying to remember what else they've been in.

Anymore, I just tell loud people to shut up at the theater. 9/10 times, they do. They tend to not like it but I'm fine with them hating me and usually I see others around me express relief/gratitude through body language.

That website lines up with the back of Fassbinder: The Life and Work of a Provocative Genius's release date filmography. Maybe I am just thinking way too much about this; I just want the best experience for Fassbinder, especially since I've never been more fascinated with director as I am with him.

On another note, I'm trying to expand on some avant-garde/experimental directors. I have The Hollis Frampton Odyssey and I plan on getting By Brakhage later, but I just recently discovered a Japanese director named Shuji Terayama and his films look right up my alley. I found a copy of Experimental Image World that I'm going to watch. I also have gotten curious about Warhol, so I got Vinyl, Beauty #2, Outer and Inner Space, and Poor Little Rich Girl. I don't know if I should watch any others by him.

Any other recommendations along these lines would be great, thanks!

I gave it a go: Six Moral Tales, Twenty Four Eyes and Heaven Can Wait for $18. I can't see how this won't be cancelled, but we'll see. I had all the other cheap titles except for Wise Blood which was $9, but that one wasn't so much cheaper so I figured I'd wait for a hopeful Blu-ray.

I wish I could have been there, love laughing at ignorant movie goers. My favorite was after the amazing conclusion to Martha Marcy May Marlene when somebody notablty frustrated yelled, "that was the WORST movie I have ever seen!!" Or a certain lady after Tree of Life talking of the glories of 'Something Borrowed' as if her body was physically rejecting what she had just seen

The guy seriously thought:
[Show spoiler]Alien = connection to Alien = Brilliant, I now understand everything

I'm proud of myself not knowing what Something Borrowed even was until looking it up just now.

Funny thing is, the end of MMMM is actually my favorite part of it....yet the most hated by everyone.

All That Heaven Allows - $0.90
Six Moral Tales - $0.90
The Vanishing - $0.90

Total with shipping, about $11. Sure, a little pricey, but considering Six Moral Tales is about $80 on its own makes this a steal.

Terayama is a favorite of mine. Pastoral is IMO his best film.

Avant-Garde can be a wide range of stuff, too much to even list (start with the basics I guess if you haven't already, like Kenneth Anger, Maya Deren, Hans Richter, Man Ray, Germaine Dulac, etc). I found a good overview here for ya:

http://mubi.com/lists/avant-garde-film

If you want an experimental filmmaker along the lines of the others you mentioned, Paul Sharits is someone that isn't talked about as much that I would recommend. Bruce Conner as well.

Very weird, I went with the Ultra Saver and my shipping was $8.99 for a total of $18.04 or something like that.

On a related note: Does anyone else here hate it when other moviegoers rush to leave the theater as soon as the end credits begin, as if they've just been freed from some kind of agonizing experience and must be the first person to leave? I always stay until the very end.

By that yardstick, Prometheus should be nominated for best screenplay.

As far as MMMM, I just have to remind myself how radically different an 'art House' film is to many people

Must be the location that it's shipping to.

It's shipping to RI for me, which is across the country, so it's still $13 for me. I added a couple others to see if the more you order, the more you save, but that isn't the case.

That must be it. It's higher for us all the way here on the East Coast...
