Chungking Express

The Seventh Seal
Wings of Desire
Che
Howards End
Last Year at Marienbad
The 400 Blows

I was leaning The 400 Blows, but wanted some other opinions.

Thanks in advance.
I would say 'The 400 Blows' because it's one of the best on the list, and judging by the Blu-rays you own, we seem to have similar taste. Oh, and it's only $19.99 on Amazon right now.

BTW, the cover art for the 4 new titles is top notch, probably the best so far.
I'm especially intrigued by the Walkabout cover, and I love the layout of M, with the title and director's name crossing each other.

I actually like By Brakhage: An Anthology and Stagecoach covers the best.

The four of them are amazing, IMO.
I'm really excited to add these to my collection.

Me too. But first I really want the 3 releases of the year (so far) for me (Dillinger is Dead, Bigger Than Life, and Vivre Sa Vie).

Will be getting M and Stagecoach.

Upgrading my Walkabout.

Cant see upgrading my Brackhage......though everyone could use some "seeing with ones own eyes" in 1080P right?......looks like I have some thinking to do before its released

I donno why, but I was kinda hoping for a new cover of M and not the same one they used on the DVD.

I love the art for Stagecoach and Walkabout.

Is the guy who designed the Stagecoach cover the same guy who leaked the title-less art work with the mountains? They look similar in style.

Yes.

Box - 518
Vol. 1 - 184
Vol. 2 - 517

Similar to the Antoine Doinel set.

Box - 185
400 Blows - 5
Stolen Kisses - 186
Bed and Board - 187
Love on the Run - 188

This may be my most costly Criterion month ever. M and Stagecoach are definite purchases, while Brakhage and Walkabout are very tempting. I need to see Walkabout again, while I need to simply see more Brakhage to see if its worth it.

If it followed the Doinel precedent, wouldn't the box be numbered 517 and Volume 2 numbered 518?

Also, with Volume 2 being 2 discs, I wonder if we're going to get to see Criterion's solution for 2-disc sets?

I've been considering purchasing the entire Blu-ray Criterion Collection and staying up to date with each month's relesases. I know I cannot possibly enjoy each Criterion release equally, but I also think it would be nice to have them from a collector/investor standpoint, as well. Criterions tend to hold their value, and the OOP titles generally appreciate quite well with time. Hopefully this doesn't sound too pretentious, as I do enjoy classic/foreign films and have always been a large proponent of the Criterion Collection. They've opened up a whole new world of films that I otherwise might have overlooked. Acquiring the entire collection is not only a great way to add some great films to my library, but also to support one of the best DVD/BD publishers out there. Displaying the collection is an added bonus, as they've always taken great care when it comes to packaging design.

So what do you guys think? I currently only own 4 Criterion Blu-rays (400 Blows, Third Man, Pierrot Le Fou, Benjamin Button), and at the present time I think there are over 30 released on Blu-ray. Buying them new from Amazon at an average cost of $27 each (with tax/shipping) would come out to around $800+. I probably would do separate orders of about $200 every month or so until I'm caught up.

Anyone up to date on Criterion Blu-ray releases? If so, I'd love to see some screenshots of your collection.

The Rossellini War Trilogy Recently had the Box the last # (500) with the films before it (497-499), so that was the change in precedent there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see three clear cases for the Brakhage set. But maybe they will have their first 2-disc clear case for Blu-ray (they've had 2-Disc clear cases for DVD). We'll find out in May....

Yeah, I have all of the blu-ray releases so far. I'm not even considering letting myself get behind on the blu-ray releases. All other releases are coming second to make sure I have all the funds I need for each month's Criterion blu-ray releases, plus their Eclipse sets and any DVD-only releases that I may be interested in.

At this point, it'd be kind of pricey for you to complete the collection in one fell-swoop. However, if you really want to get the collection, I'd suggest starting with this month's three releases that come out next week and get those. Stay up-to-date with the upcoming months. Then, the best bet would be to pray that another 50%-off sale at Barnes & Noble comes soon. In the meantime, you could be putting aside some funds for the previous discs and you'll be able to grab them at a lower price point during the sale.

My initial thought was to pick up all the Digipak releases first, and then order the clear-cases to create uniformity in the set. I'm not a big fan of the cardboard cases and the way they sit with the rest of the cases.

Regarding the 50% off B&N sales -- would this be 50% off MSRP? That would put most 39.99 titles at about 19.98 each... I guess this is a little better than the 22.99-24.99 prices on Amazon, especially when doing a bulk order, but you'd also have to factor in shipping as well (I have Prime).

Thanks for the response -- do you have any pictures of your Criterion Collection?

I really hate that the box is a separate # from the movies. It messes up the flow on my shelf.

Well, do you have a local B&N store near you that you could go to during the sale? That would save on shipping. If not, though, if you pay by VISA there is almost always a VISA link that can be found online that gives you 5% off your total order plus free expedited shipping with no minimum to purchase. It usually takes 3-5 days to get anything when I use that link... and I use that link a lot. But, yes, I have Prime, as well, which is great when you want things quickly... especially now that Prime now ensures all releases to arrive on the release day.
