Nice! Thanks for that link, because I was unaware of the replacement cases. This Blu-ray is going in my collection next flash sale, methinks.

The same with readily-available StudioCanal movies. What's up with Grand Illusion? Is there a chance of Criterion releasing a Blu-ray of this, or is it no longer in their licensing realm? The current StudioCanal version looks enticing.
I have both the StudioCanal Grand Illusion and the Masters of Cinema Le Silence de la Mer and I love them both. Region-free is the way to roll

True that. I learned this when I bought the Universal Monsters set from Amazon UK for $43. Five dollars per movie. The price is right with a lot of the imports.

Made some good deals ordering from Europe instead of getting the North American releases

Yep. I'm an idiot. I somehow fell down the Howard Dean Stanton rabbit hole and ended up in Paris, Texas (see what I did there? ).

Wim Wenders seems incredibly fantastic. I can't wait to try out Buena Vista Social Club, very soon.

Tonight, though, it's Summer Hours!

That is kinda sad but true. Overseas there are sometimes cheaper and sometimes better editions then what the US offers. Plus the fact that there are titles you can't get in the US.

I am very sad Criterion doesn't leave the region open like some of the more prolific publishers do.

That said, amazon UK has been great. Maybe not for the best of the best movies, but when I can pick up the Jurassic Park, Bourne, Back to the Future and Lethal Weapon box sets for around, or under, $15 a piece, I'm not going to argue.

And I'll never forget being able to get The Sound of Music collectors set from .ca for $13. I think that was one of my best hauls yet.

I would snap up a region free in a second if I lived elsewhere. I have half a mind to do it now, and I wouldn't terribly benefit from it, as most things I watch are region a, or free.

Compared to me whining a bit in Canada, I guess we don't have it so bad. But at the same time, I see the cheap prices almost from my window, so that makes it a hell of a struggle.

Can you imagine if US and Canada combined? I wonder how many generations until we start to give up these petty ploys for power and care about solving the problems of the world?

No kidding. I love what criterion has done. They are making home video the true thing home video should be. There's always something they put in, no matter how little. The rare exception is rare indeed.

If I could choose a career, it would be working with them to help propel our experiences when we spend money to be as good as possible. I may own a lot of movies, but the only ones I truly appreciate in any meaningful way are criterion films, or films that take the same care, like Studio Canal.

Criterion have no choice about that, it's about rights issues. It's also the reason why they only offer English sub on the releases and no others

Same here however I don't mind getting it from Europe or Asia if it's cheaper

And let's not forget we often get inferior editions (In Bruges in 1080i for some reason) and big, stupid classification labels all over the cover artwork.
Having said that, I have occasionally taken advantage of the 2 for $20 deals at JB HI FI
