Looking at the facebook page again and came across this
Ben Testa: Thanks for M. That leaves 4 blus on my must have list, Badlands, Fanny and Alexander, The Night of the Hunter and Black Narcissus. Your the best CC!Yesterday at 11:27am · Comment ·LikeUnlike · View Feedback (6)Hide Feedback (6) · Report2 people like this. The Criterion Collection: With that list, you're going to have a good BD-year... And another comment on their page listed how they wanted Night of the Hunter as well, and Criterion said that they would have a good year also. So it seems that Night of the Hunter is coming this year to BD.....but what im really excited about is Black Narcissus!!!! |

Warner has basically declined to renew any licenses they have for films they don't own outright, such as Stagecoach and other titles from the Caidin Trust. Another that comes to mind is My Fair Lady, which is owned by CBS, and is now licensed for distribution through Paramount. This isn't really that surprising, as Warner has notably downsized their home video output over the last 18 months. Why worry about additional films when you already have a 5000+ film catalog you own outright? It is strongly rumored that Criterion has acquired the following titles from the Caidin Trust: Foreign Correspondent, To Be or Not To Be (1942), Othello (1952), The Long Voyage Home, History Is Made at Night, and I Married a Witch. |

Tremendous news about Stagecoach, I'd love to see The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance get the Criterion treatment. I'd be more than interested to see To Be Or Not To Be and I Married A Witch on blu. It would be nice if Criterion could get the rights to Rene Clair's classic The Beauty Of The Devil, inexplicably never released on DVD

I was lucky enough to attend a special screening of Badlands at IFC Center which included a Q&A with Sissy Spacek. What I remember most about the screening was that the film was projected open-matte for about 45 minutes and the boom mike was clearly visible at the top for a few scenes. Now if Criterion do get to release it, they should include the Absence of Malick documentary (on the WB DVD) and maybe Malick would allow them to put his short film, Lanton Mills on there as well (not very likely). Another thing I'd love is either a interview (video or audio) or audio commentary with the man himself, but again, not very likely. And without Lanton Mills, they can't hope to put out everything except The New World, though if they did get Lanton Mills along with The Thin Red Line and Badlands, that would be everything else he's done. I've never seen Stagecoach (planning to in May, obviously), but I must agree about Wes Anderson. While he is a talented director, I don't understand why he deserves multiple spots in the Collection (at the obvious expense of other titles) when, in my humble opinion, his films seem to be style over substance. how anyone could possibly be disappointed in the May schedule is beyond me.
I mean that must be a joke right? ![]() the May schedule is beyond incredible, and I think most people would say that it is Criterion's best blu release month ever as far as overall quality of the 4 featured titles. I do think that a "Rushmore" bd release is overdo, but obviously the decision to release "Bottle Rocket" made another Anderson release so soon after very unlikely. If I had to name the Criterion titles still in print that I want to see on blu the most, however, it would be an easy list-- "Brazil" "La Strada" "Jules and Jim" Fanny and Alexander" The Furies "Amarcord" "The Complete Mr. Arkadin" ![]() Last edited by Arkadin; 02-14-2010 at 02:32 AM. |

first of all the fact that "M" is out on MoC is meaningless as far as the quality of the Criterion releases as a whole so why that is being brought up I have no idea.
plus: it is region locked to region B, as the Criterion release is locked to region A so for 99.9999% of the people on the planet, it is important to have both the Criterion and/or MoC release because of the locking. so that argument is just a total non-argument plain and simple. bottom line--the seminal classic "M" is being released on blu-ray by Criterion. as far as "Walkabout" and "Stagecoach"--they are both amazing classic movies. add in the also amazing anthology release, and you have 4 amazing titles, and the best month ever for Criterion imo. B. That's fine. We disagree. I think Stagecoach is "meh" and Walkabout is worth a rental but not buying. I never said you were wrong or I was right...just saying, for me, this is easily one of the weakest slates...and last months wasn't all that spectacular either FOR ME. C. Lets hug. |
