Tempting! This is one of those movies that I'm patiently waiting to find at one of the used stores around here, but I'll probably end up pulling the trigger sooner than I expect. The good thing about Amélie is that it was one of those movies that I watched constantly when I first bought the DVD upon release way back in the day, but I have not revisited the film for years, so it will be a great Blu-ray purchase in the sense that I can enjoy the high definition experience while also being reminded of the greatness of the film after absence has made the heart grow fonder.

I first saw Amélie at the theater in 2001 with two friends. The theater was filled with couples, so we three guys felt sort of out of place, but loved the flick just the same. We went out to eat after the film and talked the whole time about how hot Audrey Tautou was.

I paid a stupid amount for Bob le Flambeur on DVD (I got into a bidding frenzy on eBay ), but I love it so much I'd probably consider getting an upgrade

Yeah, I hear ya.

When I purchased Hitchcock's Notorious, Rebecca, and Spellbound from Amazon today because of the sale, my wallet told me that it was going on strike until the release of Skyfall in a couple of weeks.

I'm still clear-cutting my DVD collection, so I might sell some off at the used store down the street before then and check to see if any of the Blu-rays on their used rack are on my wanted list, but that's pretty much it until Skyfall.

If I were you, I would focus on seeing what DVDs in your collection have a Blu-ray available. Then add it to your Wishlist on the forum and start selling them off. When you see a sale, you jump on it

Speaking of the used store down the street...

When I was there selling some DVDs the other day, I saw a Criterion Blu-ray for $17.99 on the used rack. It was a copy of Bergman's Summer Interlude in perfect mint condition. I briefly considered buying it, because the price was right, but held off because I had my mind set on using the trade money to buy the six Criterions that I ended up purchasing, but I might pull the trigger if I see it on the used rack at that store again.

Has anyone here seen Summer Interlude? I love my DVDs of The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, Smiles of a Summer Night, and Fanny and Alexander, so it's a surefire bet that I'll find enjoyment in Summer Interlude, but it would be good to read someone's opinion.

Enjoy!!!

They're amazing! I think I'll follow up on that.
The MGM covers are very uninspired and Strangers on a Train is just idiotic - makes it look like Farley Granger is about to kill the girl!

Yes, worth every cent I imagine. The greatest movie about a gambler. I love the ending. Just one of the greats overall, Bob Le Flambeur

I saw it back when it made it's Blu debut, it's a real charmer, but I actually prefer Summer with Monica a bit more.

I think you overpaid a bit Because I picked it up for $10 (50%•buy2get1free at B&N)

That's sort of what I've been doing, except offline. I've been selling off the DVDs that have available Blu-rays and upgrading them gradually.

There are some Criterion DVDs that I sold, but still haven't replaced with the Blu-rays (Blow Out, Anatomy of a Murder, Diabolique, M, etc.), so I'll likely be grabbing them during a big Criterion sale (or grabbing some at Best Buy as rewards points come in).

Most of the DVDs that I've sold, however, are non-Criterion favorites of mine (Die Hard, the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Back to the Future, The Blair Witch Project, Poltergeist, Lost in Translation, etc.) that I plan to upgrade in a slow gradual manner as I see find used copies or find in sale bins at Best Buy, Walmart, etc. There's no big hurry.

Of course, a lot of the DVDs that I've sold are ones that I have no intention of replacing on Blu-ray. It was high time that I did a streamlining of my collection.

I'm astounded, though, at how cheap Blu-rays are in general. The new releases are expensive for a couple of months, but then everything goes on sale for cheaper than what I used to pay for DVDs.

If it is, then Owning Mahowny isn't far behind. Now that's a film I could picture in the collection.

Oh, I didn't buy it. I merely considered buying it. I had my mind set on the three Hitchcock Criterion Blu-rays, as well as Night of the Hunter, The Game, and Walkabout on that particular day, so I left Summer Interlude on the store shelf.

I blind-bought both Summer Interlude and Summer with Monica a while back and loved both of them.
Summer Interlude is a deceptively simple film. It's incredibly beautiful (and makes you wish you were on holiday), and kind of deceives you into thinking it's going to be about something else. Good little film.
Summer with Monica is quite a dark film and very different to Summer Interlude. It's really a story about growing up, becoming an adult and dealing with life and responsibilities.

I sold off 3000 DVDs and about 200 Blu-rays over the past month or so. My obsession for films and my collecting over 15 years got out of hand. I had two gigantic wall cases full of films and more in other parts of the house. I've gone through my collection and upgraded a majority of the ones that I liked or have intentions of seeing except for a few of them. I'm in no rush really, because my focuses are on new releases and Criterions.

I still haven't seen my blus of The Game or Night of the hunter yet (ive seen them on DVD years back) but I hear they're amazing. Have you tested the various soundtracks on the Game yet?

Dammit, you should have told me you were selling off DVDs. I'be been looking for cheap used DVDs (ala Blockbuster and Amazon marketplace)

Summer Interlude is one of the better early Bergman works. I prefer it to Summer With Monika... it's not on par with some of his later, more heavy films, but it's certainly worthy of a purchase, especially if you like his other aforementioned films.

Sorry

I still have a few in my basement lol I don't think there is anything special, though. Just some promos I got that I plan on trading in to Best Buy during U&Ss.
