[Show spoiler]I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the The Passion Of Joan Arc scene was foreshadowing what was to inevitably come, although I am not 100% certain about this. Also, the scene with the old man in the diner appeared to me as a turning point in Nana's life when she realized she didn't want to live her life this way anymore.

On a side note, is The Passion Of Joan Of Arc played out the way it was in the movie? As in the people look at each other and a white screen appears with the dialogue. I've heard great things about this movie and with the Blu-ray release hopefully coming in the not-so-distant future, I would hate to have to watch a movie like that. Regardless, I will pick it up

All-in-all, I think Vivre Sa Vie was very powerful and a good look at one woman's life. The picture and audio quality was pretty good, so for those on the fence about it, I'd recommend giving it a shot.
I love Vivre Sa Vie. It's one of my favorite Godard films, and it really showcases Anna Karina's immense beauty. This is on my list of old DVDs that will be upgraded in the hopefully not-too-distant future.

Duuuude, that's a huge spoiler.

I literally saw the film without knowing ANY details, knocked me out.

By the way a couple days ago there was some Jeunet talk, apparently only one of us has seen A Very Long Engagement.

Personally the stuttering on Narayama was not enough to bother me, for about 20-30seconds it stutters while panning trees. It will probably bother a lot of others though.

The film itself is excellent, even though I'm a fan of Imamura's more realistic version I really prefer this one.

Vivre Sa Vie is one of my favourite films. Easily my favourite Godard film.
The commentary track is by an Australian film critic, Adrian Martin, and is well worth your time.

+1. Someone asked earlier about our favorite commentaries....this was one of the most informative that I can remember (although I generally don't listen to them).

This is only half tongue-in-cheek...I freaking hate when people talk during a movie.

I don't know, the Early Godard films that have stuck with me the most have been 2 or 3 things..., Weekend & Contempt. I love fun Godard, but I kinda like pretentious Godard a bit more

I will definitely give that commentary track a go. Admission of Guilt: I've listened to commentary tracks but I've never seen a film while the commentary track was playing. I've gotta find a way to download them so I can listen to them while I study.

Could you imagine a theatrical showing with the commentary track ala Ebertfest

I always have that problem with family members...they talk during it, and often pause to go do other things for long periods of time, which I always feel completely removes you from the emotional context of the film and hurts the viewing experience.

Living alone for so many years has spoiled me as far as watching movies is concerned. I can put a Blu-ray into the player, turn out the lights, chill out on my sofa, and enjoy a movie in perfect tranquility.

This line of discussion brings back a funny memory, though. Back in 1999, shortly after I bought my first DVD player, I purchased The Matrix. I lived in an apartment with two friends, and we always had others over on weekends. My friends were even more fixated on The Matrix than I was at the time, and, for a long while, I'm pretty sure that we watched it at least a couple times a week for a few months. About ten of us would go out to dinner or go to a club, then come home in the late hours of the night, crowd up in the living room, and watch The Matrix.
One of my roommates had his fiance with him all of the time during these months. Years later, when I reconnected with them on Facebook, he confided in me that she had forbidden him to buy his own copy of The Matrix when they moved in together, because she had been so sick of him watching it every day at our apartment back then.

Incidentally, I am pretty sure that The Matrix is the movie that is largely responsible for converting the masses from VHS to DVD in one swoop back in 1999. I'm not sure if I can put my finger on one single movie that converted a mass number of people to Blu-ray, though. Maybe The Dark Knight or The Avengers, but not to the same extent.
EDIT: I just researched the Statistics page and answered my own question. The Dark Knight is, by far, the most popular movie that appears in the most collections on this site. Batman Begins is second place. Inception is not far behind. Wow, the kids love their Christopher Nolan.

That's always how it is for me, except for having relatives visiting here for a few weeks...which equals a few weeks of me not watching as many films as I'd want (I mean, with my viewing habits...there's very little that I watch that I can show other people I know).

About six or seven years ago, I showed my Criterion DVD of The Vanishing to a friend who was visiting town for a few days. The movie freaked him out. In fact, it truly freaked him out. It was one of the most fearful reactions to a movie ending that I have ever seen. Afterward, he kept asking me why the **** I liked that movie enough to own it. I just laughed and told him that I thought it was a wonderful movie.

These days, though, whenever someone who is a casual movie fan asks me about my affinity for Criterion movies, I just show them Dazed and Confused. That one probably has more universal appeal than any other Criterion that I know of.

Just finished watching Kiss Me Deadly. Wow! I love film-noirs even more after seeing it. Ralph Meeker played an excellent role and it went by pretty quick.

The film-noir is probably my favorite genre and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's full of mystery and suspense that will have you guessing until the very end. That's what a mystery film is supposed to be. Can you guys recommend me the best film-noirs of all time? I plan on picking up The Maltese Falcon very soon because I enjoy Bogart.

Anna Karina is a very beautiful woman. She definitely made the film as great as it was.
