I found Paris, Texas for 40% off at the Barnes & Noble near the office, so I pulled the trigger. It's great to have this upgrade in my collection, and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie again.

In addition to having the Harry Dean Stanton coolness stamp, this one also has a great Ry Cooder soundtrack and the presence of Nastassja Kinski, who should be in as many Blu-rays as possible. It's quite an emotional movie, or at least it was for me when I saw it a few times in the past.

Looking forward to seeing how this compares to the old DVD!

Absolutely, his films are like a jigsaw puzzle, unfinished pieces from one film end up in another. Two thirds of a trilogy will happen in one film and conlcude in another. It's not entirely intentional, but it is kind of beautiful.

Im not so sure? It might make more sense to release this in JUne (before Pacific Rim comes out).

Come on, Criterion.

It would likely be a July or August release.
Isn't it 616, not 666?

Blu ray needs more Altman, so I'm all for that. It would make up for my disappointment with most of Criterion's announcements for this year.

I watched Paris, Texas for the first time a month or so ago. It's another that I LOVED! Towards the top of my Criterion list.

Hell yes. Short Cuts, Nashville or the Long Goodbye wouldn't be bad releases either.

What? Malick, Bresson, Chaplin, Powell & Pressburger, Lang, Rouch, Mizoguchi, Kazan, Tarkovsky, Hitchcock...This year has been amazing. As a matter of fact I'm picking up every single release.

This year is already superior to last year's lineup.

I would love it if they announced The Long Goodbye. McCabe and Mrs. Miller desperately needs a Blu release as well. The quality of the DVD I watched was pretty awful.

I'm more of a 70's-90's film fan or if it's older it's gotta be more auterist, so really only Badlands (which is my least favorite Malick film), Ministry of Fear (which is an okay Lang film), and The Man Who Knew Too Much are the only films to have piqued my interest from Criterion for 2013.

Ugh, the PQ on the DVD is terrible. When I first saw the film, I thought the soundtrack was too, but then I found out it was meant to sound like that.

McCabe and Mrs. Miller and has always had a kind of muffled soundtrack, especially in the first 30 minutes. The PQ on the DVD is awful. It's always going to look a little blown out and soft because of the negative flashing that was done during shooting, but there's way too much compression going on with the DVD that it's almost hard to make out much of the image.

I should have remembered this for the actress question a couple days ago...

I might have to put this on top of my stack to watch, although I just bought it.

Nastassja Kinski is one of the great beauties, especially in Paris, Texas. The woman is just drop-dead gorgeous.

She belongs with Irene Jacob in The Double Life of Veronique and Juliette Binoche in Three Colors: Blue/The Unbearable Lightness of Being (pretty much any film of hers in the 80s/90s, though she still looks amazing for her age.)

Awesome. I hope Suzuki didn't lose his juice in his 80's. The two Suzukis on Criterion Blu Ray are sensational!

666 should be some movie starring Jimmy Stewart just to blow all our minds.
