You've got to be kidding me, so jealous Over here, we don't have an art house. Were lucky enough to have three or four indies playing at any given time, though.

On MWF, the classes run for 50 minutes and on TTH, they run for 75 minutes.

Anyways, I hear the Nikkatsu Noir is the most accessible one, but I still haven't dove in I'm still trying to watch all my Christmas blind buys.
Yeah, I'll probably end up in a fifth year because of the terrible class selection.

LoL, in my experience the people who strictly study film know their material, but can't make a cohesive film to save their lives, while the people who are great at production don't really have a solid foundation of knowledge. Pretty rare you get someone who is well routed in both worlds.

My lecture courses were great because they exposed me to a lot of film but my production classes were the best, the only way to learn IMO.

It only took me 4 years to get my degree but I had a huge leg up since I was already fluent in a foreign language so it saved me a year. I started film hand in hand with my generals and got heavy into production in my last years.

Well, how many of her films have you seen? As far as I am concerned, her performance in Blue is enough to describe her not only as a great actress, but one of the greatest of her generation.

But if you are still not convinced, I would suggest seeing her in Lovers on the Bridge. In my opinion, it is her best performance. A legendary performance by Lavant as well.

You want to pick up the UK disc, not the U.S. one. Click the link below:

My choice for Criterion female actor goes to Delphine Seyrig...

She has so much natural charm and humour and just lights up any scene she is in.

And at seven movies on Criterion she must be one of their most represented actors of all?

I saw Les Amants du Pont-Neuf theatrically in the early 90s with a friend and we both hated it.
I'm older now and my sensibilities have changed a little, and given that I loved Leos Carax's Holy Motors, it is probably time that I came back to this film.

I want to see Holy Motors, but my only Carax experience was Pola X which I hated when I saw it.

Our review will be up today. I mentioned this multiple times elsewhere on the forum last year, but this was the best film I saw in 2012. No competition. And AE's presentation is top notch.

So far my CC consists of the following:

Godzilla
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes
Charade
The Man Who Knew Too Much
A Night to Remember
Gold Rush

I'm not really collecting Criterion movies as much as I'm just picking up movies I want (as it's the only way to get them). My next pick will probably be The Blob.

I caught The Virgin Spring on TCMHD this morning, what a great film. Criterion needs to get a US release of this out ASAP, the print they showed looked great

That sounds like "Camera 3" of the 1990s, where I saw many films. The owner went on to acquire the multiplex that was built during San Jose's downtown redevelopment.

Watched Night of the Hunter last night. Solid, suspenseful film. Not sure if I'd buy it but it I'l add it to my wish list...

Going by your CC, you might also consider 12 Angry Men and Anatomy of a Murder. Solid classics from old-school Hollywood.

Even earlier, joie. It was the Camera One. The entrance to the theater was from the screen side. You would walk in and see the faces of the audience with the screen behind you.

What's up with the photo of the Jean Gabin letter on Criterion's Facebook page?

I can hope and dream that Pépé Le Moko and Touchez Pas Au Grisbi will see the light of day on Blu-ray at some point.

I'm going to shell out for the Olive Films release of Les Misérables, starring Jean Gabin, in the near future, but I will not watch it until I am finished reading Victor Hugo's novel. (I started reading the novel at the end of November, but put it down when I purchased my Blu-ray player and have only been revisiting it sporadically to read a few chapters at a time!)

I went to college in the early 1990s, before internet and DVD. I watched my first foreign film, the 1922 version of Nosferatu, during that time, but I did not delve full-tilt into vintage cinema. During college, I collected VHS tapes (since DVD was not yet a format) of old horror movies, old Clint Eastwood flicks, and, of course, James Bond movies.
