The last 2 years in February Criterion.com had a half price Flash Sale. Last year was on Valentine's day. It has been a while since the last one, maybe next week?

Ennio Morricone's music in The Battle of Algiers is quite impressive. His compositions play over each tragedy in the movie, regardless of whether the French or the Algerians were the perpetrators, as if to show that the deaths were the loss of the entire world.

There are only a few of her early (big) films that are not subtitled in English, most notably Fanfan, L'étudiante, and the La Boum films.
As for nice English-friendly releases and films, I would suggest tracking some of these down. Her second film with Zulawski, in particular, is outstanding:

This is also a great thriller with an outstanding finale:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anthony-Zimm...364159&sr=1-11

p.s. Polly Maggoo I included as it was mentioned above, but
Delphine Seyrig is practically non-existent there. You are not missing anything
Oh great! More research...

Couple of review comments on the Anthony Zimmer release definitely resonate: "It's ...a shaggy dog story filmed with a lot of style in beautiful locations where the sun always shines and everyone travels and stays first class...", "Sophie Marceau is incandescent." How bad can the downside be??

Thanks guys for the feedback on ImportCDs. I'll take those to the bank (which may be the only currency I'll have left).

On the subject of Sophie Marceau...

I've always been tempted to track down this DVD that stars Sophie Marceau and Monica Bellucci.

This looks like it could either be the greatest film ever made or a completely disappointing waste of time. I'm too afraid to find out for certain, because I do not want to spoil the illusion.

Both actresses seem to be past their prime around the time of this movie's release...
...meaning that they are still 100 times more beautiful than most people half their age.

Which means that Ivan's Childhood, Kid With A Bike, Pina, Qatsi Trilogy, Tin Drum, Trilogy Of Life, and Two-Lane Blacktop will be mine.

I did not realise so many of her movies are available in English but in my own defense I never really care if they are in English I watch them in French

It's not horrible but it might depend how much you like Sophie Marceau and the price you find it at. I never recommend blind buy myself but maybe others can give you some better ideas on how it was for them as a blind buy

My crystal ball says that the next Criterion 50% off sale might involve the Blu-ray set of America Lost and Found: The BBS Story.

There is a hole in my life than can only be filled by watching Frank Zappa have a conversation with a talking cow in high definition.

There are a lot of French films that I would rather buy first (The Wages of Fear, Diabolique, The 400 Blows), but the 50% off sales are a good time to buy the massive box sets.

You blind-buying that Pasolini set? Hope you don't regret that...

Well I'm trying to get the ones that I'm missing

I'm trying to work some deals with eBayers so hopefully they'll drop the price for a few items for me, and if they don't, the Criterion sale will be the backdrop!

I certainly love the films, but judging from what I've read, many members here hate them, hence the joking warning.

Ah lol

I don't think you can really go wrong with any Criterion film. They're all great and the more you research them, it seems you appreciate them better - especially for me.

Hey everyone!

I was going to pick up Days of Heaven tomorrow but I was also looking at some other criterion blu-rays. I am looking to buy:

8 1/2
The Seventh Seal
Fanny and Alexander
The Wages of Fear

I was wondering if Days of Heaven is worth the blind buy considering I loved The Tree of Life and The Thin Red Line or if any of these other choices would be any better? I can only get one at the moment, so the ones that I don't get will have to wait for a sale.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Silent

You mean you haven't seen Tiny Furniture?

Days Of Heaven is a fantastic film. It's one of my favorite Criterion releases. The score is very memorable and the scenery is beautiful. I would recommend this one out of all of the other films you listed.

I know it's received a lot of negative reviews, but I'm sure there's still a good chunk of people who appreciate it. I don't like Lena Dunham at all, though, so I don't really see myself liking it. There's a lot more worthy films to release, I feel, then Tiny Furniture. I shouldn't really pass judgment on the film considering I haven't seen it, but based off of critic responses, etc., that's where I'm coming from.

The Wages of Fear for the win. This movie is an intense white-knuckle thrill ride that knocks most action movies today out of the park.

This is on my priority list of movies to upgrade to Blu-ray, and there's a good chance that I'll buy it this week.
