Here you have the most violent, dangerous prisoner in Britain with the kindest loving parents who he respects and cares for. I expected the current film cliche of monstrous parents making a monster. It really gives a spin to the whole idea.
Bronson is on my list to buy. I really respect Tom Hardy. He's a great actor and one of the best of this current decade.

On a side note, I'm getting ready to watch 12 Angry Men after I take a shower.

He is not that bad, I like kidding about it! Alright he is not the greatest director or story teller in the history of cinema but some of his movies are fun to watch up to a point even if I would probably never really watch anyone of them again.

On a side note, do the StudioCanal films ever go on sale? I plan on ordering a couple (Contempt / La Grande Illusion / That Obscure Object Of Desire).

Tom Hardy is great in that movie. His physical transformation is amazing, probably with help of steroids.

IScottie, you have been watching great films one after the other. The only problem is that gets harder to watch a popcorn flick at the movies.

yes criterion and classics are great, but sometimes you just want to watch a mindless action film or some really stupid comedy
at least thats how i feel sometimes

like sometimes I think it can be just as fun to put in crank 1&2, death race 1&2, the transporter series, or the expendibles series and almost have just as much fun, due to all the loud mindless explosions

I completely understand what you mean. I just want to watch the Criterions one after the other pretty much lol.

I've never been a big movie theater goer (I was when I was younger) but I figure it's a lot cheaper to just wait for the film to come out. My theater is like $8 a ticket anyway now, if not more.

I will be seeing A Good Day To Die Hard this weekend or next week because I have free movie money! Love those movies!

Every time I see your gorgeous avatar, I get the urge to pop in The Double life of Veronique. Maybe tonight will be the night where I watch it for the.. fifth (?) time.

I watched it twice within 12 hours last week - it was my first time watching it.

Easily in my top 10 of all time.

Its a marvel people have not caught onto this and still devote themselves to watching every trailer and piece of advertisement about a film. How can you enjoy a film that the marketing department is selling to you instead of the director? Isn't obvious you are doing the film, and thus yourself a giant disservice?

Saying a movie looks good because "the trailer was awesome!" is one of the most inane things you can say, the trailer, which the studio paid a marketing team a lot of money to cut together footage to sell the film (often times giving away surprises, plot twists, and endings) actually looks good? Well duh, of course it does. What other keen observations do you have to share with us? The sky is blue? Grass is green?

I'm with you there, buddy. I won't even read the back of boxes now, just in case as you'd be surprised how often the blurb writer thinks a plot twist is just the thing to get people interested. It's wonderful seeing a film blind. Once you've seen the film, watching the trailer for the first time, it's amazing how much of the film is given away.

I didn't even know who was in Django Unchained when I watched it. Even the credits were a source of surprise.

It's tough, very tough for something as big as that, but it can be done.

I see Ronin-Gai has been added to Hulu, it's excellent to see Kuroki get some love. His ATG films would make stellar releases.

I'd love to see the Science Is Fiction: 23 Films by Jean Painlevé set upgraded as well!

Is there any talk of a Criterion Blu-ray release for The Adventures of Antoine Doinel box set?

The reason I'm asking is because The 400 Blows Blu-ray is on my radar for a not-too-distant-future purchase, but it would be nice to prevent overlapping in the event that the box set in its entirety sees the light of day on Blu-ray.

One of the genuine American auteurs, and one of my all-time favorite directors. Unfortunately, he isn't appreciated at home. His fate reminds of Zulawski's in Poland.

No one sees and feels New York City better than Ferrara.

I just finished 12 Angry Men. What a fantastic, fantastic film! I don't see how anybody could not love it. It's easily one of the best movies that I've ever seen. The film embodies so many different elements, with comedy, drama, and mystery just to name a few.

I'm typically not a huge fan of law films because I often find them to be very drawn out and boring, but for a movie that only took place in one room, it was absolutely incredible.

The thing that made the movie for me was definitely the acting. Each character was portrayed by a fantastic actor who each struggled with their own personal issues. In such a short period of time, we learned a lot about each person, such as their values, for example. Some of the best character development that I've probably seen to date.

The important message about the whole film is that all it takes is one person to make a difference. Amongst the sweltering heat, Henry Fonda managed to "keep his cool" and have an impact on the other jurors. I couldn't help but laugh at all of their sweat marks under their pits. Those spots were gigantic!

To end my rant, I'd like to say that as soon as I heard John Fiedler talk, I knew he sounded very familiar. After some research, I figured out that he did the voice of both Piglet (from Winnie The Pooh) and Father Mouse (from Robin Hood).

Very recommended!

Good call.

If iScotties rumor comes true, I'm gonna play Wavelength on a loop. Some people think there's not enough going on, I however think there's too much. Whenever I describe it, people think I'm crazy: "watching a wall for 50 minutes don't sound fun."

The finest cast of character actors ever assembled i.m.o. Has been a top 5 film of mine ever since I first saw it.
