I know it gets lots of love, but I don't like Band of Outsiders. I'm not in a rush to upgrade my DVD copy.

Ouch. May is a big, big month for me, but I need a new car. A new car is more important than buying Jubal, 3:10 to Yuma, Band of Outsideers, and Medium Cool. May's so much more interesting than April, yet I'm not surprised people are upset. The Mike Leigh is also a possibility too, but not definite.

Medium COol looks like one of the best releases in a While. Gonna have to check out that release. 3:10 to yuma and Jubal are extremely unnecessary and totally undeserving and totally lame in the features department and I will look upon those two very disdainfully.

About how you would expect a remake of High Noon to compare with the original. 3:10 to Yuma is a quintessential classic western, a true delight in the vein of High Noon. Nuanced performances, multi-dimensional value-driven characters, the drama provided by wonderfully written interaction between the protagonists, rather than endless gun fights, extraneous action, and distracting special effects, as in the remake.

Very surprised, and delighted, to see this as a Criterion announcement. That makes three easy purchases in two months (Badlands, Waterfront) and I'll also be looking at Life is Sweet.

Four blu-rays or a new car? Do post a picture of your eventual purchase!

I'm definitely getting the car. My current car is a 2004 Focus Wagon (bought used 3 years ago), and is heavily rusted (You in BC don't have to worry about things like that, here in NS we do unfortunately, due to how they do snow removal ) and has major electrical issues. I bought a 50 dollar booster pack and have pretty much had to use it daily all last week. I'm also starting to sink more into maintaining it than what it's worth. That's why I'm getting a nice, shiny new 2013 Fiesta sedan. I just need to decide on the Lime Squeeze or the Violet Grey.

I'll get the Criterions eventually, and I will post the photo of the car. I probably could have bought one by now if it weren't for the Criterions I own.

Default Westerns

It is refreshing to see that Criterion has decided to select two westerns:

3:10 to Yuma and Jubal

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the only western they currently have on blu-ray is Stagecoach.

Only release I'm familiar with is Band of Outsiders. Glad to see another Godard get an upgrade. I'm still hoping Criterion shocks me with a George Washington upgrade one of these months.

All the other titles sound really intriguing to me, so I'll certainly be giving them my time.

I envy you. You get to rearrange your budget to get a new car. I get to rearrange mine for HVAC repairs! Granted it will cost me less than a car (only 55 top tier Criterions at MSRP, 110 at BN on the CC economic scale) but HVAC isn't as, um, cool as a new car.

This is the weakest month so far this year however there are some good titles. Medium Cool is a nice surprise. Another Paramount title that is a very important film from '69 with a great performance by Robert Forester. I met him a few years ago and he was most proud of this and Jackie Brown. It has a very intriguing story of being made that will make for nice interviews. I'll definitely be getting 3:10 to Yuma for sure. I am not the biggest fan of the older black and white westerns in general but this film has always stood out along with High Noon as the best ever. I'll pass on all the others. Hopefully this month is the calm before the storm. Yes, Easerhead, The Devil's Backbone and Scanners will come out in do time but let CC perfect those discs. I would rather get Le Samurai first.

I don't live in a house, so I don't have to worry about HVAC. However, would you believe that my Focus's rocker panels are currently patched with galvanized steel, the same stuff they use in creating heating vents? So I kinda have paid for HVAC too!

You'll probably love the trilogy, judging by your reaction to Veronique.

I'm looking forward to what you think of Marienbad and Antichrist.

3 Women doesn't get talked about enough on here. I think it's fantastic.

The rest....ehhh.... (M is pretty essential though)

Band of Outsiders finally! Day one for me. Haven't heard of the others. Excited for BoO, one of my most wanted upgrades. Now bring on The Cranes are Flying and The BRD trilogy Criterion.

Well, sounds like your car is right out of some snowy, alternate universe Mad Max! At times like these I'm reminded that just as I'm owned by my cat, I'm owned by my house.

Default Crumb

I just finished watching the movie Crumb. ........................ wow. It reminded me of, to some extent, American Movie (in being a documentary) ... or maybe American Movie on steroids or some other kind of drug. Fascinating to me ... loved it!

I always endorse Kieslowki, but boy I loves me M and Paths is good too.

I'm going to conceal that I've read about the rest but not seen the rest. Oops.

Me, I'm having a friend over for asteroid mania fun: Deep Impact (never seen it).
