I enjoyed both films, but I like the character nuances a lot better in the original version of 3:10 to Yuma. The town drunk is a great part of the story.

I bought a 50 dollar booster pack and have pretty much had to use it daily all last week. I'm also starting to sink more into maintaining it than what it's worth.
That's why I'm getting a nice, shiny new 2013 Fiesta sedan. I just need to decide on the Lime Squeeze or the Violet Grey.

I'll get the Criterions eventually, and I will post the photo of the car. I probably could have bought one by now if it weren't for the Criterions I own.
Niiiice!!! You deserve it!

Before I bought a Blu-ray player, I used to be annoyed at the monthly announcements when Criterion would release Blu-ray transfers of existing Criterion DVDs. Nowadays, though, I look forward to seeing upgrades of my favorite movies from the company. Band of Outsiders is the one that I'm most excited about this time around, as such, because I want to see the best possible transfer of that particular film.

Nope, it's just a car that's been subjected to a few Nova Scotian winters, with a lot of salt and such on the roads. Like I said, I bought it used 3 years ago. Also, to commit blasphemy, I actually want the two Studio Ghibli films that are coming out this year in May, more than any of the Criterions coming out in May.

I did finally watch Narayama btw, and I absolutely loved it.

I'm looking forward to what you think of Marienbad and Antichrist.

3 Women doesn't get talked about enough on here. I think it's fantastic.

The rest....ehhh.... (M is pretty essential though)
Yes, this, 3 Women is fantastic. A real puzzler of a movie that doesn't diminish after multiple viewings.

Great to hear. I never expected it to be as good as it was, but I was left speechless by it. A really unique experience.

I'm getting all kinds of teasing about buying a Ford though, because I should know better than to buy another one, because my current one is problematic. However, all those people drive GM. This Fiesta is going to be my Criterion edition of cars, because I want the MySynch system.

I may be able to get some of the CCs as payment for house/puppy sitting in June

My co-workers were asking me about it, and were surprised to find out that it was in colour, because of the cover. It was also amusing telling them the plot of the film, as there's about 30-40 years age difference between those co-workers and myself. Most of them are of an age to go to Narayama. It's all fun though, and they're a good bunch.

I always expect the Japanese releases to be good, and have yet to be disappointed by any of the ones I've watched. Mind you, I have avoided In the Realm of the Senses. And I don't mean to avoid Still Walking, but I'm unintentionally biased against it for being too "new." I know it's wrong to think that way, but it's unfortunate. I will get to it eventually!

I honestly haven't been watching a lot as of late, as I've been reading more. I've managed to dig up 1500 some odd ePubs for my Kobo, and kinda want to read all of them.

I really love the theme of shifting identities in films..and that's such an excellent example of it.

Ok, great minds...! Just mentioned to Mrs. ElliesDad over toast and coffee two hours ago, reading about the asteroid, that tonight would be a great time to run Deep Impact again. You'll enjoy~ it's not great art, but it's rather well done, particularly in the opening plot development, and good fun.

M is one of the highest film-noirs and I always embrace that genre of films.

Good luck with Antichrist. Always interested to hear people's thoughts on that one. I love it, but it's pretty incendiary.

I'm just about to have a go at Two Lane Blacktop. Been desperate to see it for ages.

I'm not sure...I feel like I've seen more positive reactions from people that have actually seen it. I get the feeling most negative reactions are from the people that say 'nope, not even going to give it a chance, not for me'. It's one of those films...where you kind of have a good idea if you'd like it before you see it.

Haha the plot certainly sounds darker than the film actually is!

I'd say that's a good idea about avoiding In the Realm as it's a very divisive film, I rate it well but I'm a tad bias from my large admiration for Oshima's pre-1972 work. Unortunately I'm also guilty of ignoring Still Walking, probably because it's newer and I'd rather explore everything before it first. It's not that I'm worried it won't be on par with the rest of their releases.

I'm such a slow reader, so I'm usually watching as much as possible.

What has always fascinated me is how Lynch masterfully instills fear, paranoia, and anxiety within the audience. I have always had an appreciation for films which "stick with you" long after the initial viewing, and each time I revisit this film I find something new.
Oh buddy! Last nights upteenth viewing of Mulholland Drive scared the he'll out of me. If someone would have tapped my shoulder after the dumpster scene, I would have had a heart attach. It also gets more heartbreaking each and every time as the first "act" is conceptually very mournful.

Eraserhead us gonna be great, but The Straight Story is the Lynch film I want the most on blu.

He'll yeah, one of Altman's best and a hugely innovative film: it's heady, atmospheric and puzzling. I think it's not talked about often because of
[Show spoiler]the "twist" ending
.

Lynch's work doesn't do much for me... Except Straight Story (which I love) and Elephant Man (which I like an awful lot).

Whither Blu?
