I forgot to mention seeing Raiders on IMAX. I can't believe I had started to cool down about its brilliance over the years. Wish I could give it 6 stars.

I didn't really like Killer Joe. I found it humorous, yes, but the whole thing didn't really win me over.

McConaughey gave a great performance, though. It wasn't his typical role.

I forgot to mention seeing a big screen showing of King Kong (1933) during the summer of 2012.

I should also mention that I saw the outstanding long-lost Australian film, Wake In Fright, at the theater last year. (I have this on Blu-ray now and I really should double it up with Walkabout one night.)

It's always a pleasure to catch the classics on a big theater screen, and I've been fortunate to have seen a few (Alien, the original Japanese version of Godzilla, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, etc.). Of course, since I'm 41, I guess that I've seen a lot of "classic" films over the decades.

I saw Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo all in the same day back in November 2012. It was maybe a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and let's just say right place, right time. Those screenings will tide me over until their individual Blu-ray releases. Simply glorious.

EDIT: I also saw Dr. No in September.

Same. Matthew McConaughey was great, but Killer Joe certainly had an "ewww" factor to it that I don't care to revisit.

Also, since I happen to be a lifelong resident of the southeastern U.S. and have lived in many rural areas, I am amused (not necessarily annoyed, but amused) when filmmakers fail to portray the South in an accurate manner, or if they portray it in over-the-top style. Killer Joe is guilty as charged. This is another reason why the recent remake of Straw Dogs was an epic fail.

We've got a pretty decent midnight program on the weekends at the Landmark Esquire here in Denver. But it's 30 minutes' drive home for me afterwards, and I'm not as young as I used to be. Over the years, I have seen some great stuff at midnight shows (Holy Grail, Clerks, Hard Boiled, Heavenly Creatures, Spice World, Rocky Horror, etc).

But since moving here last year, I have only made it out to see Killer Joe. I missed Psycho and Casablanca last fall. I need to learn to nap in the evening.

The remake of Straw Dogs was laughable.

Not many remakes can really live up to the amazing legacy that the originals create.

I love it, but I don't even find it very funny at all, which I would have assumed would be one of the complaints..

The film was set in Dallas, where I grew up. The characters were very, very real for me.

I don't think it's an age thing.

Try this test. If you stand up straight while naked and look down, can you see ol' Vlad the Impaler?

If the answer is no, you are a boxers kind of guy

If the answer is yes, boxer briefs are for you.

Non-Criterion, but I see just now that the Wong Kar Wai double feature set is $29-ish on amazon, which is not just the cheapest it's been, but the cheapest way to get both titles ...in case anyone wanted it (I know he was talked about a few days ago). I've been planning on getting these titles for a while now, so I think this may be a good choice..

Those two are must haves. There are images in Happy Together that are beyond transcendent.

iScottie, pop in a Wong Kar Wai film

I just bought it

I really preferred owning Fallen Angels, because I've only seen Happy Together once (in school, actually) and didn't love it..but I've been wanting to give it another chance (because that was years ago), so a little while ago I decided to wait and get the set. $29 is a decent enough price for me not to regret that.

I don't even think I'm going to watch a movie now

I'm getting tired and I still feel like shit because I'm sick so I'll probably lay down soon.
