Thanks, my second favorite Godard, after Breathless. I can't believe that it's one of his most polarize 60's films, I find it to be wonderful.

I'd love to see Talk To Her on blu, whether it was by Criterion or not.

I've got my eye on Bad Education next. I'm pretty curious about his upcoming film as well.

It's on my second to next list of films to grab from the local library, along with Y tu Mama Tambien.

If you want an inexpensive way to view Almodovar's pre Volver/pre blu ray filmography you can get it on DVD from Amazon UK with The Almodovar Collection Vol.1 & 2, The Pedro Almodovar Collection and then the single releases of High Heels and Labyrinth of Passion.

Yeah, but I really wish some of them had US releases instead... even if it's on DVD, I'd appreciate new editions in the US. I can't believe they aren't more widely accessible.

Finished Red.

Ahh!!!!! Such a fantastic ending to this great trilogy. So happy I watched this set today. A great five hours well spent!

[Show spoiler]I loved how all of the characters ended up in each film in some way shape or form - with a beautiful conclusion at the end with all of them. I personally feel that it was just destiny. These characters seem to have suffered for a good deal and they ultimately were saved in the end, in my opinion. I think it's a lot more detailed than that, but holy hell.

I can't recommend it enough! Ahh!!!!!!!

I knew you'd like it based on your reaction to Veronique . It's my favorite of the trilogy as well... the most emotionally potent, and a wonderful way to wrap up the films. I'm not a big fan of the first two films, but this film makes it worth it, to me.

The ending made the entire set worth it.

It seems like we went on this roller coaster ride of fate that concluded brilliantly.

My favorite Kieslowski. You pick up on so many details with subsequent viewings.

The judge seemed to embody a lot of the qualities that each character possessed.

Also, my favorite from the trilogy. Kieslowski does revisit some themes from The Double Life of Veronique.

[Show spoiler]The older judge is somehow a spiritual twin of the younger lawyer.

The judge mentions how he became bitter due to his ex-lover leaving him in law school, which in the present is occurring to the young lawyer. What makes the film interesting Irene Jacob's character feels affection for the judge. Will she save the young lawyer from the same future?

Also, Kiewslowski leaves a lot to the viewer's interpretation than the other movies in the trilogy. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Best scene using gum in movie history.

Great interpretation.

[Show spoiler]When the judge was explaining how his life unfolded while at the theater, I personally felt that he was the future version of the younger lawyer. I know it doesn't make much sense, so I prefer your "spiritual twin" term for it. Their life course was essentially laid out when they dropped the book with the examination question flipped open. Both of them then became lawyers with miserable lives and both of them were cheated on.

The only thing that changed was the boating accident. It's as if by helping the older judge and helping him heal from his past and his loneliness, Valentine was spared and given a brighter future.

I don't know how accurate that last paragraph is, but I feel as if that had something to do with it. I felt really bad for the judge during the film. He was so lonely, but thanks to Valentine he got a second chance at life.

Have you seen The Decalogue, Scott? If not, you should seek it out. It's just a remarkable achievement.

I agree.

[Show spoiler] I like how Kieslowski left the viewer to hope that Valentine would have the same effect on the younger lawyer, assuming they build a relationship. Also, throughout the movie the young lawyer looks with admiration at the large poster of Valentine.

You do bring up a good point about redemption of the old judge spurs the younger lawyer to have a better future. If you recall in The Double Life of Veronique, the death of polish twin at her choral debut causes the french twin to quit singing entirely (by some kind of twin instinct). She also decides to go to the cardiologist.
