Any chances of it coming to Blu-ray via Criterion?

You do bring up a good point about redemption of the old judge spurs the younger lawyer to have a better future. If you recall in The Double Life of Veronique, the death of polish twin at her choral debut causes the french twin to quit singing entirely (by some kind of twin instinct). She also decides to go to the cardiologist.
Yes, I definitely remember that.

[Show spoiler]It was as if through Weronika's death, Veronique was able to see her world through different filters.

I know it doesn't make much sense, so I prefer your "spiritual twin" term for it. Their life course was essentially laid out when they dropped the book with the examination question flipped open. Both of them then became lawyers with miserable lives and both of them were cheated on.

The only thing that changed was the boating accident. It's as if by helping the older judge and helping him heal from his past and his loneliness, Valentine was spared and given a brighter future.

I don't know how accurate that last paragraph is, but I feel as if that had something to do with it. I felt really bad for the judge during the film. He was so lonely, but thanks to Valentine he got a second chance at life.
iscottie, if you like the parallel realities theme, I would highly recommend Kieslowski's Blind Chance, his first movie tackling this theme. A simple thing as catching a train can alters ones future drastically.

I also remember recommending The Decalogue to you earlier this month. I know you will enjoy it. Take care

Criterion really needs to release a collection with:

The Scar (1976)
Camera Buff (1979)
Blind Chance (1981)
No End (1985)
A Short Film About Killing (1988)
A Short Film About Love (1988)

Hell add some shorts. Charge $100 - I don't care.

This guy is the best.

Yeah, that's the one. The quality isn't so great, though.

It's been rumored for some time, but there isn't any substantial evidence of it coming. It's in desperate need of a Blu release.

EDIT: Two of the shorts you listed above, About Killing and About Love, are extended from two episodes in The Decalogue.

Oh interesting. I didn't know that.

I may buy it on eBay, but I'm not sure if it's worth shelling out $65+ in case it gets a Blu-ray release.

Also, I'm curious as to what everybody's top Criterion releases are (in general). For me personally, it's the following. The ones in bold are my top favorites.
  • 12 Angry Men
  • 39 Steps
  • Antichrist
  • Army Of Shadows
  • Belle De Jour
  • Double Life Of Veronique
  • Down By Law
  • Game
  • Killing
  • Lady Vanishes
  • Modern Times
  • Night Of The Hunter
  • On The Waterfront
  • Paris, Texas
  • Repulsion
  • Three Colors Trilogy
  • Traffic

By any chance has anyone rented or purchased the HD Sabotage and/or Young & Innocent on iTunes? I might just purchase one because I am really curious to see how they look...I could find worse things to do with $9.99 that's for sure.

I need a little help from you guys...

I'm kind of new to the Criterion thing but I guess I see some Best Buy stores used to or still have a separate section in their media aisles for Criterion's. Not a separate aisle but just like a column of shelves dedicated to Criterions.

I saw a picture of one in a thread here a few weeks ago, and I was actually talking to the GM that runs my Best Buy and I told him about it and he said it'd be a great idea.

I was wondering if anyone had a pic I could show him as an example. The moviestop near me also has their own Criterion column of shelves, so I was also going to go there, take a picture and show that to him as well. When I explained it to him, he thought maybe some renegade customer organized it but I told him there were some stores that organized it that way with a tag above the shelves (like Drama, Action, Horror) that was dedicated strictly to Criterion's.

I've been talking and giving him feedback for a few weeks now and we're on a first name recognition basis so I mean he is the GM so he could conceivably organize it however he wants. He wasn't familiar with the Criterion Collection, and I was just explaining to him how Criterion's are a bunch of "classic" movies that are preserved, and with older movies like Chaplin and Hitchcock restored. I told him Criterion buyers generally know what they're looking for but I told him how difficult it is to find Criterions with the way they've merged their media sections with DVD and changed it to categories instead of alphabetizing.

My Barnes and Noble in particular isn't the best at organizing their Criterion's, let alone Blu-rays and movies.

They have the old waist height stand up racks that you have to kind of keep shifting the titles forward as if you're looking in a filing cabinet.

These two films are expanded versions of episode V and episode VI of The Decalogue. I highly recommend finding a way to see the series NOW! Each film can stand on it's own or joined with the others.

After criterion upgrades my Antonioni's and Tarkovsky's, the Decalogue is next on my wish list.

Picked up the criterion DVD of Rififi, not realizing there was a UK blu ray (I have a region free player). It was a blind buy though and I thought it was excellent. A great film noir/heist film with a great portrayal of fascinating criminals. Plenty of suspense and the actual heist sequence was spellbinding. It ranks up there with Asphalt Jungle and the Killing, as one of the best, if not the best, heist films of all time. Any other great heist films you guys like? Or films by the same director?

I'm new to Criterion, so all I have so far is the aformentionrd Sevem Samurai on Blu and Godzilla on DVD. I'm certainly game for some reccomendations though, I've been especially wanting On the Waterfront, The Royal Tenenbaums, Brazil, Fear and Loathing, and House, among some others.

Haven't done one of these in a while so here's today's edition...

12 Angry Men
Rosemary's Baby
Three Colors
People on Sunday
Paths of Glory
Carlos
Chungking Express

The only other Dassin film I'm really familiar with is The Naked City. I liked it and would likely buy it should it ever be upgraded but wasn't exactly wowed by it.

As for heist films, love 'em.

My top three are probably the ones you've already meantioned (and in that order but Rififi or The Asphalt Juingle is an awfully close call).

Other favorites...

Bob le Flambeur
The Pope of Greenwich Village (somewhat weak overall but the good bits are really good)
Reservoir Dogs
The Bank Job
The Lavender Hill Mob
Ocean's 11 (1960)
The Town

And these aren't really heist films in the caper sense and deal primarily with post-heist fallout but I love them both...

Charley Varrick
Revanche (this was one of my first CC bd purchases and for better or worse completely sold me on buying blind)
